It insists the senator’s Capitol Police security detail was with him at his Henderson, Nevada home when the injuries occurred on New Year’s Day and transported him from his home to St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson for treatment.

What? He is exercising while the police are visiting him and he just "happens" to get pretty banged up which results in him announcing that he is retiring from the senate?

His story really stinks.

I did not know the capitol police had jurisdiction outside the District. Reid may have been majority leader up till that date also so would he not have had a SS detail as he is in line to the Oval after Bonehead?

More to the point what happened is Reid had a dawn meeting with someone he had promised, after being paid, to get some bill through. He reneged and said: do not threaten me I am a US senator. When Vito heard that, he pointed to Rocco and Nunzio and said show the senator the esteem in which I hold individuals who do not deliver. They did and left him atop his hobby horse.
