The American Civil Liberties Union this week laid off 23 employees, about 7 percent of the organizations national staff.
The cuts affected employees in New York, D.C., California and Wyoming.
ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero announced the impending reductions internally in a March 26 email to employees, and the affected staffers were notified Monday.
In the email, which was obtained by The Washington Post, Romero cited the need for the ACLU to cut costs. In addition to the layoffs, the organization during the fiscal year ending March 31, eliminated ten national staff positions, postponed its nationwide staff conference to 2016 and increased employee contributions to health plan costs.
Over the last five fiscal years, the ACLUs annual operating deficit averaged more than $15 million, and the organization has used reserves to fill the gap, Romero wrote.

“Are the USA taxpayers being forced to subsidize them?”
Short answer: yes

Wyoming does not belong in the same group as these other jag-offs. Even coyotes and federal agents enjoy a higher status in Wyoming than the ACLU. There is something about all the clean air, fresh water and high elevations there which breeds sanity into people.
Hell is their proper home and the reason they are working so tirelessly to make America just like it.
This is what happens when even the republicans don't stand up for what's right, moral, and constitutional. The ACLU simply doesn't have anyone to sue.
If there is no pre-paid envelope stuff it drop it off at post office no return address PO has to deliver it AARP or others can’t send it back U cause they no who UR. Works for me long time and still doing it to all of them.
Actually since we now have criminals in our streets, illegal aliens with full benefits and total impunity, perverts teaching in our schools, and cops afraid to do their jobs, there’s not really much left for the ACLU to do. That’s why they are laying off staff. America is a mess. Mission accomplished.
Sometimes cardboard or dull-edged sheet metal works too.
Freeing them up to collect unemployment while they help Hillary get reelected?
Thanks for doing the math for the Americans with a basic math deficiency.
To bigger and better layoffs!
“Sweet.”
“Lets hope that number increases.”
The other good news has been the lack of jobs for new lawyers.
About the only thing they qualify for is asking, “Would you like fries with your order!”
A small but a good start!
With the fascists now in power, their mission is nearly complete
Probably, Legal Aid and all that I guess
“This is what happens when you drift ever leftward.”
OR it’s what happens when your goals are met by a friendly Administration.
This is what happen when lawyers run every branch of government.
Please tell me why this is news, or a bad thing.

23 Employees was 7% of their staff? Though I’m sure they’re WELL financed, that’s NOT a very large organization regarding manpower.
Of course it probably doesn’t take much manpower to target someone for destruction, file some frivolous lawsuits, and bankrupt them in years of litigation....
-—running out of targets. That’s correct only in the sense that they’re running out of targets that they want to destroy. They would have plenty of work if they were willing to take on the Odumbo/Jared/AttyGen/Clinton cartel. But their main source of income is indeed tax dollars that they get paid whenever they file federal lawsuits. Win or lose they get paid. But they just can’t bring themselves to help clean up the dimocrat DC. Just for starters they could clean up the EPA by getting rid of some heavy handed krap. But that would be hurting their fellow travelers.
They need to raise wages for their workers to $15 an hour.
