The logical flaw in the indictment of a looming very bad nuclear deal with Iran that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered before Congress this month was his claim that we could secure a good deal by calling Irans bluff and imposing tougher sanctions. The Iranian regime that Netanyahu described so vividly violent, rapacious, devious and redolent with hatred for Israel and the United States is bound to continue its quest for nuclear weapons by refusing any good deal or by cheating.
This gives force to the Obama administrations taunting rejoinder: What is Netanyahus alternative? War? But the administrations position also contains a glaring contradiction. National security adviser Susan Rice declared at an American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference before Netanyahus speech that a bad deal is worse than no deal. So if Iran will accept only a bad deal, what is President Obamas alternative? War?
Obamas stance implies that we have no choice but to accept Irans best offer whatever is, to use Rices term, achievable because the alternative is unthinkable.
But should it be? What if force is the only way to block Iran from gaining nuclear weapons? That, in fact, is probably the reality.

IMO It eventually will be a must for our survival
after causing the present US president to step down , the U.S. should form a coalition with Israel , Saudi , Egypt, India , and Russia , and selectively go after Iran with combined mil assets , in an operation designed to both destroy their nuke making facilities and cause immediate and traumatic regime change . While attacking the mullahocracy militarily , completely empower and support a Persian peoples grass roots replacement of power within Iran .
We should make Iran an offer which no rational nation could turn down i.e. to replace all of their uranium shit with thorium reactors and let them be the world’s prototype site for thorium power. If they refuse that, bomb them into tomorrow-morrow land....
War against an Iran should not be a drawn-out ordeal. US armed forces of a few years ago would have made short work of Iran, just as it did against Iraq (the insurgency of the aftermath being another story—Saddam and his military were quickly toppled). At the rate the Obamanation is reducing the capability of our military, an armed conflict with Iran would be more difficult now and into the future; however, we may have no other choice if we wish to survive.
Heard part of a radio interview. I think a “journalist” was badgering some Republican (politician?) about not accepting this deal saying that he must want war.
IF the Iranians do not abide by the terms of past agreements, they are already acting in a “war like” manner.
It’s like Saddam’s repeated violations of the peace settlement from the first Gulf War. Bush didn’t “bring us to war”. Saddam did. And Saddam was offered the choice of stepping down and he refused.
If a felon out on parole seeks prohibited weapons, he’s returned to “crime”. It doesn’t even matter if he obtains them or not, he’s in violation of his parole. Saddam was too.
Obam doesn’t care what the outcome is other than he wants a deal so he can say he’s got it before he’s out of office.... Heck he’s already touting this as a win and clearly knows the Middle Eastern people are all seeing it as a deal...when it’s not anything more than an agreement to continue talks....the rest is all smoke and mirrors for public consumption.
Obama’s going to do the same thing with the Palestinian issue....tout it as a win when it isn’t. That will be his next step.
We would need willing partners to take over and this administration proved it could not be relied upon or trusted when insurrection took place.
So war?
Bravo! The elimination of all Iranian or proxy mullahs too should be of the first order, along with all Iranian diplomatic personnel worldwide under house arrest. Dissenters executed.
Anybody notice that the Washington Post is now the daily rag of the neocons?
Anybody still think neocons are actually conservayive?
So, the Saudis want to destroy Iran, and we, like idiots will take care of business for them, like we always do.
Iran: the gift from Jimmy Carter that keeps giving...
Bullcrap. Obama always uses the cheap debate trick of the false dilemma. Either take this deal or bomb tomorrow. The only reason they came to the table was they are hurting from sanctions. Obama eased them just for talking, and refused to consider upping the pressure. Donald Trump is exactly right in saying that’s negotiating from a position of weakness, something you should never do. He’s also right saying we should have walked out when Khameni rubbed it in Obama’s face by leading a death to America rally. If they are serious about a deal they would come back with an offer, if not, well then you know. If you remember the Russians walked out of the SALT talks when Reagan deployed missiles in Europe, and came crawling back when it failed.
Better now than after they get the bomb. And by the way these ayatollahs have had it coming to them since 1979. In hindsight we should have kicked over Iran instead of Iraq.
How does Iran threaten our “survival”?
Look, I would favor declaring war on them (first), issuing an ultimatum over the nuke program (next) and destroying the nuke sites if not surrendered (third).
But none of that is going to happen.
The MOST they could do to us would end THEIR survival, not ours. They could nuke a few targets, yes (which is why their “death to America” is cassus bellorum), but have not the means to “threaten our survival”.
It is not the best option, it is the only option. Chamberlain chose settlement over war and got both. Sometimes your opponent leaves you no other choice.
Supposedly all it would take would be 1 or more well placed nukes detonated over the US. The resulting EMP could be catostrophic. Fired from a container ship lying off the coast in international waters...
We may have no choice but to ho to war.
Wait til a nuke hits Los Angeles or NYC and see if we have a choice.
I believe Iran is VERY close to having a bomb.
Obama did not want that to happen on his watch.
So, this whole charade of a “deal” was setup to ask Iran to wait until Obama is out of office and then cheat, leaving the next POTUS to decide what should be done.
Then, when the only option left is military, the liberals will cry “war for oil” and “illegal war” etc. And Obama will be community organizing the protesters with his megaphone.
