My apologies; I just lectured on the swing era in my History of Jazz class last Tuesday night, and Louis Jordan, known as “Ling of the Jukebox,” was a crossover between swing and boogie-woogie who was popular during the (WWII) war years. It was the name that caught my eye.

WOW! What an in depth story by the BBC. Four sentences, wow.
He was on a ship? Alone? He probably was on a boat. From where, we do not know, nor do we know where he was fishing or for what, nor what caused his boat to capsize. Was his boat named the Essex? Was it Moby who flipped the boat? Maybe he was after great whites? He probably needs a bigger boat. He certainly does not look any worse for wear.
Most importantly, I thought the French film star was dead. Truly an Easter story.

I love Louis Jordan's music. Good lyrics, too, e.g.: "Is you is or is you ain't my baby?"
His was transitional, between the Big Band and Rock eras. Joe Jackson covered a lot Jordan's tunes.

Now if you ever want to get a fist in your eye
Just mention a Saturday night fish fry
I don’t care how many fish in the sea
But don’t ever mention a fish to me

Louis Jordan was the first Black to cross over into Country charts in the 40’s. As a life long fan of Country, I enjoy the music of the 40’s and Jordan’s is among the best.
