A former executive of a medical device company says a video of him bullying a Chick-fil-A employee has destroyed his career. Adam Smith once earned more than $200,000 a year as the chief financial officer of Tuscon-based Vante. The married father of four is now unemployed and living on food stamps three years after his videotaped rant went viral online.
In the video, Smith berates a Chick-fil-A employee for working at a company that supports anti-gay organizations.
"Chick-Fil-A is a hateful corporation," Smith said. "I don't know how you live with yourself and work here. I don't understand it. This is a horrible corporation with horrible values. You deserve better."
At the time, Chick-fil-A was facing a huge public backlash for its financial support of anti-gay groups and for the company president's remarks against gay marriage.
Smith was promptly fired from his job.
"I got into work and the receptionist, the first thing, big eyes, 'Adam, what did you do?' ... she said, 'The voicemail is completely full, and it's full of bomb threats,'" Smith told ABC News.

Journalists shouldn’t be using acronyms excessively and improperly, either. The practice doesn’t really make them appear to be more intelligent. CFO: chief faggot officer.
Ha ha, you funny guy.
Funny guys should take plane to China, be funny there.
Chinese make clear for you what free speech means.
Guaranteed, or your bullet back.
I actually wasn’t going to go to that youtube link since I’ve already seen the video, but dang it was worth it to read the comments! Epic!! Thanks for sharing.
You go, girl! Speak softly and carry a big stick.
“So what happened to free speech? if you lose your job over your words there is no free speech.”
BS. There is free speech, and free speech also sometimes carries consequences. Free speech is not consequence-free speech.
“Its a fascist dicatorship, with private enterprise carrying out the purges of dissenters, instead of the government doing the dirty work.”
No, it has nothing to do with fascism. This idiot used his free speech, and the public responded with their own free speech denouncing him, and telling his employer their displeasure. Maybe go look up the definition of “fascism” in a dictionary before you embarass yourself some more, because you are using the word like the lefties do.
“Hire him as what? Hes proven he is not management material.”
I think this is his problem. The story talks about jobs he has tried to land, and they are all CFO positions it seems.
He probably would have no problem getting a job if he was not holding out for a CFO gig. However, CFO is too public of a position for anyone to take a risk on him, so he is shooting himself in the foot if he is not applying for lowly accountant jobs just to get a paycheck.
“IMO, this is no different than that Mozilla guy losing his job for simply donating to CA Prop 8.”
There is a difference. The Mozilla exec simply made a political contribution, as millions of others did. It’s a perfectly normal activity.
This jerk berated and verbally abused a minimum wage employee who had no choice except to stand there and take it, because she was a captive audience. He also videotaped her and posted it to the internet, to try to embarass her, when she never did anything to him.
So on the one hand, a company punished someone for engaging in normal behavior that half the country might be guilty of, and on the other hand, a company rightly recognized a PR disaster if they continued to employ an abusive jackass.
I think you are right.
Though it is harder to get a lower level job once you’ve been at a higher level, because people think you won’t stay at the lower level. It’s a catch 22.
it wasn’t the video that cost him his job! His action that were caught on video cost him his job.
The video has not kept him from getting another job. It is his unrepentant attitude that has kept him from getting a job.
I believe that the consequences of his action far far outweigh his transgression. This is what liberals do. They attempt to destroy totally the individual and call it justice.
He can use hit hot air to fill balloons? Seems to me he is a perfect fit for most Universities in America including the Catholic ones. The views he espouses are tailor made for Universities...
Hey, the moron wasn’t fired by Chick-Fil-A nor did they take action to fire him. In that respect, his free speech rights were left intact.
He was fired by his company for embarrassing the company. As a CFO he is a 24-hour representative of his company and its good will and image. He knew the rules or should have. Don’t make your boss look bad in public if you want to stay employed.
TYPICAL STUPID LIBERAL LOUDMOUTH!
Agreed.
Really I feel compassion for the poor guy blowing his mind and then his job.
True, sometimes you just have to leave stuff off the resume if you want to get a lower position. Even then, they may be wary of a work gap. Still, I think it would be better for him than holding out for a CFO position that isn’t likely to come.
*laugh* Yes, apparently there are about nine more FReepers left to go that have not heard about this yet.
I think Greg Gutfeld on The Five did a Gregalogue on this today, so I should think keeping an eye out for a youtube post about it is in order next. Just to make certain this topic gets noticed by those poor few still out there that have not yet heard. :)
