Therefore, here's a simplified summary of what the Indy Star editorial board suggests:
They suggest a statewide law, similar to the existing law in the city of Indianapolis, that extends standard civil rights protection to people based on their sexual orientation.
They do *not* suggest repealing RFRA.
Pence has destroyed his own credibility now by trying to appease the left media.
What a wuss.
If part of the goal was to prevent Christians from being forced to participate in gay weddings then extending civil rights protections would destroy that.
He’s a political coward. Those of use that live in Indiana already knew this.
The Indianapolis Red Star can be ignored. The rag has little credibility.
I must say in all honesty I was not reassured by Gov. Pence’s heavy breathing and obvious nervousness at his press conference. Hopefully he doesn’t go wobbly.
“Pence has destroyed his own credibility now by trying to appease the left media.”
And further emboldened the left, which is far worse.
even the leftwing Guardian UK basically called him a spineless wimp
Just yesterday posters were in love with Pence.
Suddenly the love has turned to hate and denunciation!
So fickle!
Yeah, that is pretty bad: )
He was on my good list, which is very very very short, for a long time. But in the last year or so, he has been dropping like a stone.
Another Alinsky triumph!
And this one in only four or five days!
Way to go, Republicans!!!
Just took Pence out of any consideration for 2016.
They will hang this thing around his neck like an albatross.
I just received the following email from an old and dear friend who taught school back when teaching school meant the Three R’s and DID NOT include Marxist political correctness indoctrination. I pass it along as possible food for thought for those of us who grasp the end game of this perniciously pestilential process.
Dick, on this ‘Freedom of Religion’ law:
I think most people get the word ‘religion’ confused in their thinking——we have many people here of other religions.
If their religion required them to close their business at sundown and there were people of other faiths who wanted to do business with them, would they have to open for those who want to do business with them?
Dick, where is the country that I once lived in many, many years ago?
Mary
To which I replied:
Mary, The country in which you and I grew up has been hijacked by a consortium of lownoinfo voters (thank you government schools and the Marxists now running them) and venal, self-serving politicians who believe that if they either remain silent to the ongoing “transformation” (much of the GOP) or aid and abet the process (ALL the Dems who are now indistinguishable from the Stalinists who captured Russia), they will be elevated to princes in the new regime.
Ernst Rohm and the others who assisted Hitler in his conquest of Germany held similar beliefs. He was rewarded with a bullet in the head in a prison cell. His associates died in The Night of the Long Knives”, the lucky ones killed outright, the unlucky ones slowly strangled hanging from hooks like so many butchered cattle.
What these current fools and accomplices of this new tyranny fail to understand is that the history of tyranny is filled with such stories. The tyrant will not tolerate the existence of ANY groups or individuals who might come to threaten his tyranny.
“ALL men lose when freedom fails and good men rot in filthy jails. And those who cried “Appease, appease” are HANGED by those they sought to please.”
Love to you and yours as we enter perhaps the most dangerous 660 days in our lifetime.
Dick
Pence went wobbly, no one else.
So, how can anyone else be blamed?
Jesus Christ: You cant impeach Him and He aint gonna resign.
The bill allowed for a person (or business) who has been sued for discrimination to assert that their freedom of religion has been "burdened" - which means to me that they can use Freedom of Religion as a valid defense in a lawsuit against them and a jury or judge has to take that into consideration.
The uproar, as Pence says, is misguided and misleading - no where does it say the legislation is a license to discriminate.
Because of the uproar, misguided as it is, he wants to not change the legislation but make it clear that the legislation is not a license to discriminate, which it is not.
How is that backing down?
I am *not* one of those who have accused him of backing down.
Sorry, I was responding to the posted article, not specifically to you :-)
“How is that backing down?”
I hope you are right.
Gotcha. :)
