It’s pretty obvious from the photographs that somebody beat the bejesus out of the soon-to-be-former senator from Nevada. And yet the national media has uncritically swallowed the cover story that “exercise equipment” was to blame for the loss of sight in the former majority leader’s right eye. Baloney. As far as I can tell, the piece of equipment allegedly behind the beatdown of Sen. Pat Geary has not been identified, but I can tell you from experience if the senator was using, say, a Soloflex machine this would be impossible: the weight straps simply come apart without any snapping or ricochet. His story is, to put it mildly, bunk, as Power Line’s John Hinderaker notes:

In January, I wrote OK, So What Really Happened to Harry Reid? I noted the injuries that Reid suffered on New Year’s Day, in Las Vegas: multiple broken bones around his right eye, damage to the right eye, severe facial bruising, broken ribs, and a concussion. Was all of this really the result of losing his balance because an elastic exercise band broke? That seems unlikely, to say the least.
Anyone who saw Reid would say that he looked like he had been beaten up by a guy with a hard left, maybe using brass knuckles. When a guy shows up at a Las Vegas emergency room on New Year’s Day with severe facial injuries and broken ribs, and gives as an explanation the functional equivalent of “I walked into a doorknob,” it isn’t hard to guess that he ran afoul of mobsters. Yet the national press has studiously averted its eyes from Reid’s condition, and has refused to investigate the cause of his injuries. To my knowledge, every Washington reporter has at least pretended to believe Reid’s story, and none, as far as I can tell, has inquired further.
Of course not — why would they? Court stenographers don’t get paid to think or ask questions. But take a look at the legendarly corrupt senator’s facial bruises and tell me somebody didn’t work him over but good, with a left to the jaw and repeated blows to his eye socket. They didn’t want to kill him, but they sure wanted to send him a message. And that message was: time to retire.
Note also that the second video directly contradicts the first one:

I think someone told him they were tired of seeing his face in the Senate, and if he didn’t leave soon, he would really get a beating. Looks like he took the warning.
And this was the second time it happened ... by the same perp.
I think the real question is who gives a damn as long as he’s leaving. the only real justice would be him being prosecuted and imprisoned for the stuff he’s done

I love it! Equating Washington reporters with court stenographers who do nothing more than take down what was said by Democrat leaders. No more Woodward & Bernsteins these days.

My interest isn’t in whether he was beaten up. That’s obvious.
Whodunnit is more interesting. After all, Harry Reid is a well connected and powerful guy in the US government. He can bring a lot of power to bear on his behalf. If he needed some sort of governmental protection, I bet he could get it, especially after all he’s done to further Obama’s agenda and obstruct anything the GOP tried.
So, who is powerful enough to beat him up, get away with it without any questions being asked, and scare him into retirement? It seems like the local state mob wouldn’t be enough. Any ideas?
It may be enlightening to see who the Dims put up as his replacement.

The common assumption was that the incident resulted, in some fashion, from Reid’s relationship with organized crime. The principal rumor my friend heard was that Reid had promised to obtain some benefit for a group of mobsters. He met with them on New Year’s Day, and broke the bad news that he hadn’t been able to deliver what he promised. When the mobsters complained, Reid (according to the rumor) made a comment that they considered disrespectful, and one of them beat him up.”
Larry done it. That’s my conspiracy theory and I’m sticking to it.
