We have come a long way since 1979. I remember when liberals hated nuclear energy. Now a days nuclear energy is so safe even an an oil rich country like Iran can't pass it up. It must be a global warming thing. /S

“Now a days nuclear energy is so safe even an an oil rich country like Iran can’t pass it up. “
The point is that most don’t think Iran wants ‘safe’ nuclear energy.

Let me pull out this old chestnut:
“More people died in Ted Kennedy’s car than at Three Mile Island”

Years ago, my brother worked at a nuclear power plant in Shippingport, PA. Once the company held an open house where the public could tour the plant, watch a couple of short films and get a lecture about nuclear power. I was convinced from that open house that nuclear power was safe and a viable source of energy. Unfortunately, the enviro-whackos don't see it that way.

wasn’t there a rumor that it was started by someone knocking over a Pepsi can?

No one died at Three Mile Island.
No one.
No public property was destroyed or rendered unusable.
None.
Repeated studies have shown no long-term health effects of the TMI incident whatsoever.
Not a one.
TMI wasn't even a disaster, let alone the cataclysm the bunny-huggers would have you believe it was.

Its repercussions still are being felt today.Yes - via stories that keep the meme that nuclear power (being clean, affordable, and pretty dang safe with proper planning and execution) must be eliminated because such power results in too much comfort and freedom for the huddled masses.
