Well, Oregonians, are you ready to lose your ability to privately transfer guns? A senate bill under consideration would require you to appear before a gun dealer and go through a background check. How fun would that be? It probably won’t be cheap and it certainly won’t be private. Here’s an email blast we received from the Oregon Firearms Federation:

Openly defy this law, as was done in CT and OR.

I used to shoot NRA/CMP service rifle matches. What’s weird about Oregon, is that there are a LOT of hardcore liberals that are into shooting/hunting/etc... I literally have been on the firing line with a longhaired birkenstock wearing pot smoking hippie wannabe. (he beat me soundly BTW). This may pass in the legislature, but a state ballot measure will probably overturn it.

Oregon is not a liberal state, it is a libertarian state.

Universal background checks are the backdoor to registration. The governement wants to know who has guns. Requiring all transactions to be recorded is the way to get there.

If Background Checks were in place during the time of the Founding of this nation, the Founding Fathers would have been executed by the British with that information.

Absolutely no reason to have them.

And your licenses and permits for the other nine amendments of The Bill of Rights had better be up to date too.

“Oregon is not a liberal state, it is a libertarian state.”

Wrong. If it was a libertarian State as you suggest, the move towards increasing gun control would be in the opposite direction, even to the point of Constitutional Carry. Libertarians tend to be 110% in favor of the 2nd Amendment.

Oregon is not just a liberal State, it is a Progressive State — 3 of its 5 House Members are in the House Progressive Caucus.

Oregon IS a constitutional carry state. Has been my entire life.

The Republican Party in Oregon is as useful as teats on a boar. The evangelicals own the OR GOP and to be frank, that turns a lot of people off. The reason why the Dems own Oregon politically, is that there is simply no viable alternative.

I thought that there were only 5 States that had what I call “Constitutional Carry”, which I thought meant that it is legal for any adult to carry a gun in public w/o having to have any kind of permit: AK, AR (my home State), AZ, VT & WY — what the Left might call the “Wild wild West”. Has OR joined the list recently? I thought that TX may become one also.

Depends on what you consider “constitutional carry”. In Oregon, open carry has been legal my whole life. A visible firearm in a vehicle is legal also. Only concealed carry needs a permit and Oregon is a “shall issue” state.

The “shall issue” means that the State gov’t has to give you permission 1st, correct?

“Shall issue” means that they have to issue the permit unless the applicant is a felon, mental, stalker etc... The local Sheriff can’t just deny it based on the fact you didn’t donate enough to his reelection fund like in California.

In addition, Oregonians may legally carry concealed while going to, coming from, or while lawfuuly engaging in hunting or fishing, with no carry permit required.
