A jury decided Friday that a prestigious venture capital firm did not discriminate or retaliate against a female employee in a case that debated gender imbalance and working conditions for women in Silicon Valley.
The jury in San Francisco reached the verdict after three days of deliberations in a lawsuit filed by Ellen Pao against Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
Former Facebook Worker Sues for Sexual Discrimination The lawsuit claimed Pao was fired when she complained about discrimination at the firm.
does she want to be treated like one of the guys or not?
Wonder how much the law firm she representing her lost on that one. I hope a lot.
Excellent.
We had one of these women work here. Total feminist and everything was about how women were not treated equally. Very strange person. The men in the firm were scared to work with her because they were worried that if there was any problem they would be sued for sexual harassment.
Eventually the firm terminated her. She then threatened to sue for sexual harassment and discrimination. We went back to her prior firm and they confessed that they she had in fact had previously sued that firm for sexual harassment and harassment when she had been terminated there. That fact had not been disclosed to us by either her or her prior employer. (Their settlement agreement said that the whole matter would be kept confidential.)
We then threatened to counter-sue both her and her prior employer for fraud. She eventually dropped her claim against us, I think because we threatened to expose her actions in public.
we had a director of HR we fired. she was a little late in turning her laptop in, but eventually it came back, wiped clean, ..... or so she thought.
we sent it to a forensic recovery service. on it were numerous graphic porn movies..wait for it...with her as the star.
our lawyer wrote a long letter to her lawyer refuting every claim and then at the end revealed certain items were found on the laptop and perhaps the client might want to drop the lawsuit claim.
never heard from the lawyer or the woman again.
I am frankly surprised she lost. I did not think she had such a strong case, but this is the Bay Area, and oooh, it would be historic.
Surprised.
From http://www.courthousenews.com/2015/03/27/silicon-valley-firm-wins-gender-bias-suit.htm Courthouse News Service:
“After the verdict, Pao - who worked for Kleiner Perkins from 2005 to 2012 and is now the interim CEO at Reddit - gave a brief statement to a room full of reporters.
“If I’ve helped level the playing field for women and minorities in venture capitalism then the battle was worth it,” she said.””
Also...Pao has a degree in electrical engineering from Princeton, and a Harvard Law degree and Harvard MBA.
She should check her privilege.
What obligation did her prior firm have to tell you that? I can’t imagine why they would? And did your firm specifically ask her if she sued her previous company?
I don't understand. She may not have realized she was giving you those movies, but just because your company found them doesn't mean they had the right to , uh, share them.
I don’t know. I’m male, but I’d find it inappropriate and in bad form for a colleague to bring up pornography at work.
John Doerr was a smart guy, but global warming really threw him for a loop.
to each his own i suppose...
Not smart enough to get a used failed drive or something else obviously.
Work laptop ...probably afraid of what might come in discovery ?
