I am still not sure where Walker lines up on this, but I do see a reasonable way for some here illegally to find legal worker status as part of a compromise solution. The fact is, people are here, they may have their families here, and their kids may well already be in our schools. If they are otherwise a proven good citizenship, I don’t see why they cannot opt in to a legal worker visa. With renewed border security first a verification effort for illegals without US ID to tighten the labor market, allowing people to become legal, start paying taxes and function in our rules is a better solution than the current situation. I know some here call this amnesty, but lumping that scenario in with Obama’s version or a Bush-like path to citzenship is not apples to apples. No one, including Cruz is proposing a mass round up of people to deport. This scenario seems like a reasonable compromise. While on their work visa, if they have legal issues, then they would need to face consequences.

We don’t have enough jobs to go around for our own citizens at the moment. We have none to spare for these criminals.

Any status above deportation sucks more illegals to the border and induces more people to lose their visas and disappear. Secure the border is not a useful policy.
Close the border accompanied by consistently imposed fines and jail for anyone who hires an illegal alien for anything at all and free egress at the border. Then start rounding up illegals. Latinos must be the main target. Round up groups of them and put them on old surplus freighters. Leave them in the harbor at Vera Cruz on those freighters and disable the engines. We don't have to do that to more than a couple of boatloads. The rest will head south to the border on their own volition..

I use a take on the old saying ‘reasonable persons can reasonably disagree’ to disagree with you I think. If people of any persuasion/age commit an illegal act they are law breakers. My opinion is that many of the so called illegals are and will be lawbreakers. Many sneak into the US not to be contributing citizens such as the Statue of Liberty was meant to welcome but instead to live the criminal life of countries they come/came from. I don’t go with the postulate that all the children in these groups will be dedicated to the words and spirit of the US Constitution. The Nation is already witnessing in the streets and in the schools that a very large proportion of these immigrants ,legal and illegal, are demanding above and beyond ordinary for special privileges. Of course all this goes along with Obama’s change to change the fundamental spirit and wording of our Constitution. The US has a cancer of population growth/allowance which needs to be removed to keep the US what so many have died for. I speak from having lost my only brother on Okinawa and myself having served in the Pacific theater of WWII.

If there was massive wholesale deportation, the courts would block it. It will be on “ex post facto” grounds due to the government not enforcing current immigration laws, which is basically saying that the law does not exist. There is precedent in case law, all the way to the SCOTUS for this. Now, we can kick out anyone who comes here after a certain point (2 years before bill passage), block all anchor babies, cut off all benefits, and deny citizenship to those here illegally now. We can also restrict the fields they can work in.
