Is Scott Walker done?

I've taken a lot of heat for reporting on the many, many inconsistencies and "evolutions" in Scott Walker's positions, but I think Walker has finally broken an egg that can't be re-shelled. He reportedly endorsed amnesty not six years ago, not two years ago, but two weeks ago, in a private group dinner:

... during the March 13 New Hampshire dinner, organized by New Hampshire Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Horn at the Copper Door Restaurant in Bedford, Mr. Walker said undocumented immigrants shouldn’t be deported, and he mocked 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s suggestion that they would “self-deport,” according to people who were there.

Instead, they said, Mr. Walker said undocumented immigrants should be allowed to “eventually get their citizenship without being given preferential treatment” ahead of people already in line to obtain citizenship.

“He said no to citizenship now, but later they could get it,” said Bill Greiner, an owner of the Copper Door restaurant. Ken Merrifield, mayor of Franklin, N.H., who also attended, said Mr. Walker proposed that illegal immigrants should “get to the back of the line for citizenship” but not be deported. Three separate sources at the dinner confirmed Walker’s remarks to the Journal.

To be fair, Scott Walker's spokesman denies making these comments, but he's lost all credibility. Three separate sources confirmed he said this. He has been publicly pro-amnesty for many, many years, going back as recently as two years ago.

For more than a decade before seriously entertaining a presidential campaign, Mr. Walker publicly favored a broad overhaul of immigration laws.

I judge people on their records. Talk is cheap. Walker in Wisconsin has shown one thing most politicians don't have. Balls.

While Mike Pence is my first choice if he runs, I can vote for Walker. I can vote for Cruz. I will not participate in some BS circular firing squad against the good, but not perfect, people running. When we get involved in purity tests, we lose to the democrats. We also get stuck with our worst choices for nominee like in 2008 and 2012. McCain? Romney?

The problem in 2012 is that everyone savagely attacked anyone conservative running to clear the field for someone who wasn't even running (Sarah Palin). The same people then turned on Palin for "betraying" them because she didn't run.

Right now, there is one guy to attack. Jeb Bush.

While I could be fine with either of them, I’m concerned that the PTB will have those two pitted against one another for as long as it suits their purposes. Our general lack of consensus would help facilitate that I think.

A work visa shouldn’t automatically translate into citizenship. Neither should having a baby be a guarantee of citizenship or welfare benefits. There should be no more promises of welfare to anyone. The immigration and welfare systems have been horribly abused by the democratic party and used as a weapon against the country. So those two systems needs to be changed now.

Pence is good because he hasn’t finished his term. Walker not so much.

Scott Walker is the only candidate who has a consistent record of conservative achievement.

Amnesty is a straw dog set up to prevent any rational discussion of the immigration issue.

Walker has too many positives going for him to succumb to the little whirlwinds created by anonymous sources.

Walker isn’t Obama. Even if Walker supports some form of Amnesty it is a safe bet he won’t go rogue and implement it all by himself.

Cruz will be the only 100% conservative in the race. Not sure who is right behind him but Walker is the only candidate that has executive experience that is to the right of Bush.

Don’t think I’ll go for Cruz either, still think Perry is the man for the hour, me and 4% of people polled!

Supporting Cruz first in my State's PPP. Then later will decide whether to support the GOP's nominee or not.

Just to clarify: Do you think 12 million illegals should be deported immediately?

I don’t know of any candidates who have taken that position.

Yes, I do. I realize there are logistical problems with it, too. I would first advocate an insurmountable border defense that stops ALL traffic into this country, especially from Texas all the way to California.

Secondly, I support very harsh penalties for employers that hire illegals for any purpose coupled with a complete official cutoff of all entitlements available to normal citizens. I wouldn’t even allow them into our court systems save that needed to punish them for violating our laws. They can exist in the shadows or go the hell home for all I care.

Lastly, I realize that it is a tough, touchy topic and I do have some compassion. I probably would be convinced to have a program to allow some to stay here on work permits with no entitlement benefits and to PAY their share of taxes.

Lastly, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES would these people EVER be allowed to vote in this country.

We’ll see what we see as far as candidates go.

All they have to do is to stop with the damned consultants and pollsters in their ears and listen to their hearts. I’m at least hoping that one (Cruz) can meet the test. But I realize in the end I probably won’t get what I truly want.

That said, there is no way in Cowboy Hell I’d ever vote for the Dauphin Bush. I’ll sit home first.

Are you in Texas? Just curious what you’re basing the “frosty” relationship, between Perry and Cruz on. I know Sen Cruz stood up for Gov Perry during his politicized indictment. TIA.

No, I’m not in Texas. Just what I’ve read around, which may or may not be true but you have to figure they are rivals for the same job, and there is no way one will be veep for the other.

Which is all the more reason to choose very carefully and to take no wooden nickels.

Yes, but it’s been a while now since I’ve accepted any GOPe wooden nickels. Expectations for who the GOP eventually will nominate remain low, and yet prayers still go On High for the leaders of America the Beautiful. R2z
