The co-pilot of the doomed Germanwings Airbus A320 locked his captain out of the cockpit before deliberately crashing into a mountain to 'destroy the plane', it was sensationally revealed today.
French prosecutor Brice Robin gave further chilling details of the final ten minutes in the cockpit before the Airbus A320 plunged into the French Alps killing 150 people.
Revealing data extracted from the black box voice recorder, he said the co-pilot - named as 28-year-old German Andreas Lubitz - locked his captain out after the senior officer left the cockpit.
At that point, Lubitz used the flight managing system to put the plane into a descent, something that can only be done manually - and deliberately.
He said: 'The intention was to destroy the plane. Death was instant. The plane hit the mountain at 700kmh (430mph).
'I don't think that the passengers realised what was happening until the last moments because on the recording you only hear the screams in the final seconds'.
arlier in the flight, Mr Brice said Lubitz's responses, initially courteous, became 'curt' when the captain began the mid-flight briefing on the planned landing of the plane.
The captain - named by local media as German father-of-two Patrick Sonderheimer - then left the cockpit but found himself locked out when he tried to re-enter.
Mr Robin said: 'We hear the pilot asking the co-pilot to take over and we hear the sound of a chair being pushed back and a door closing so we assume that the captain went to the toilet or something.
So the co-pilot is on his own, and it is while he's on his own that the co-pilot is in charge of the plane and uses the flight management system to start the descent of the plane.

More than likely <700hrs in type, it was reported he had 6000hrs which seems more likely.
Not all gamers become detached from reality. The small percentage who do can create a really big mess in society. Those are usually the types who get most defensive when someone points out the connection.
Likely poor Andreas couldn't take any more of the intense depression that's seen in so many people these days, brought about by the bushmalaise our entire planet has suffered from, for 14 years and counting.
Bushmalaise is to the human spirit what Global Warming combined with The New Ice Age will soon be to all life on the planet when they hit simultaneously.
Yeah, dawg, I bet, kinda like the paranoid internet conservative who thought he had a plane full of gamers, muslims and homos and just decided to crash them into the mountain to let God sort them all out right?
Those are the ones that get the most defensive when someone points out the connection durr hurr...
Yep, “NO LONE ZONES” worked well during the Cold War.
That means that you must arm all muzzie captains, too.
(I wonder how many muzzies we have in the US commercial air fleet.)
The article I read said he lived with his parents.
An insane person would have just put the aircraft into a direct dive to crash into the ground. The relatively slow descent was to show the rest of the world, that the terrorists have the upper hand, and they will cause the most fear and pain that they can!!! The whole horrific incident was coldly planned and excuted, even locking the Captain out of the cabin as an insult, saying, “see we can do anything we wish” I smell a rat here!!! The terrorists discoverd a weak point in the European flight operation via security, and worked cooly as they would play a puppet.
Reminds me of the ISIS terrorist burning of the Jordanian airman.....locking him in cage, dousing him with gasoline, etc., and then lighting a fuse soaked with gasoline, etc., and let it slowly progress to the cage, causing the maximum fear and terror. Don’t count on any assistance from Obama....he’s in bed with the Iranians & his beloved Muslim Brotherhood brethren!!! We got no leaders, just pansies!!!
Still does today......:o)
He was into physical exercise and was seen with bags of health supplements. Steroids?
(Really, this is getting ridiculous!)
I didn't have either at age 28.
The co-pilot wiped out a photo online of him in San Francisco two days beforehand. Why?
“No airline can be this stupid, but government bureaucracy which produced regulations about cockpit security certainly is this stupid.”
I’m kind of coming to the conclusion that it is not the govt bureaucrats (or military ) that are typically the problem with stupidity; it’s the corrupt politicians who are injecting their wants and wishes. They are always beholden to the $$$ and interests outside of “we the people”.
In the USA a steward must sit in the pilot’s seat if one leaves. Not so in Europe.
On another thread where there were screen captures of his Facebook page, there was mention of “being with” another guy, whose Facebook page someone found, and he looked gay, too. The place they were was a place considered one of the Top Ten gay friendly hotels/resorts in Florida. That’s a lot of coincidences.
I dont think it is hate so much as it is a concern about people who are supposed to be rational contributing adults playing games in a fantasy world... something I will never understand.
It is just another part of the ungrown generation living in their parents house or with room mates in an apartment or house while they are in their 30s. Little ambition and little show for it.

Which is what makes this commentary so darn silly.
This particular 28 year old was a commercial pilot, not a 28 year old living in his mom’s basement playing video games with no ambition.
One does not wake up one morning and think ‘dude, I’m gonna be pilot’.
Well said. I agree with your thoughts on this and post25.
It goes beyond common sense that any policy would allow only one person to remain behind in the cockpit behind locked doors while in flight. People of all ages can have seizures, strokes or heart attacks that debilitate them, or even worse. I’m not sure about USA policy on this.
My bet on the absurd rationale behind implementation of such rule would be because regulators and politicians are in the pocket of the airlines instead of common sense. The airlines can’t seem to squeeze enough out of customers and taxpayers, while always cutting comfort and service levels. They claim they need to merge which reduces the free market, jobs, innovation and competition. Of course the merger justifies a big bonus.
That is policy on domestic flights from what I understand.
