The co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525 appears to have deliberately crashed the plane after he was left alone in the cockpit, according to a French prosecutor.
The captain was intentionally locked outside minutes before the A320 crashed into an alpine mountain ridge, French Prosecutor Brice Robin said Thursday. Co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, a 28-year-old German national, was silent throughout the planes descent and was alive at the point of impact, according to the prosecutor.
Mr. Robins conclusions are drawn from the planes cockpit voice recorder, recovered at the crash site in the French Alps late Tuesday and analyzed by French accident investigators on Wednesday.
The recording contains screams believed to be from passengers, once they recognized the plane was crashing.
Investigators are now exploring why Flight 9525 went into its unauthorized descent from its 38,000-foot cruising altitude with one crew member absent. The descent led to the crash about 10 minutes later.
French air accident investigators said on Wednesday they extracted information from the jets cockpit voice recorder. The recording contained voices and other sounds, said Rémi Jouty, director of Frances aviation accident investigation office, which is leading the probe. He added that there was no explanation yet for why the plane went down.

But the airline hasn't told anyone the name..:
“Germanwings, the low-fare unit of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, hasnt disclosed the identity of the pilots....”
Because the main pilot would otherwise fight him. Pilots only take so many potty breaks.
He wanted to ensure he went out with a bang.
Could this be him?

Does anyone besides me find it incredible that NOT ONE PERSON tried to contact someone via cell phone during that decent? I mean, everyone on that plane no doubt had one with them, so why aren’t there family members who might have gotten texts or voicemails from their loved ones who knew they were about to die?
Very curious to me.
My thought exactly too.
Yes, he’s giving them all ideas.
Pilots will now be forced to wear Depends and to stay in their cabin for the duration of their flights.
After the lawyers get through it will be Deutsche Lufthansa Crop dusting Services...
It wasn’t a rapid descent. 3,000 feet per minute, I believe. It would not have seemed unusual until the last minute or two.
Find him to be an intriguing interest...

I haven’t seen anything that says “terrorist” so far. Just lunatic.
That is odd.
I have thought about that. I'm not well versed in technology and the various devices - maybe they were out of cell range? When the plane hit - most everything was destroyed.
it’s still interesting that not one person noticed that the plane was decending when it shouldn’t have been and contacted someone. Even the pilot probably had a phone on him?...or the flight attendants.
I just had the morbid thought that they were held “hostage” by an accomplice with a firearm and threats made.
That is just a wild surmise, though.
Boyfriend problems?
And the other part of why no one contacted could be because they were unaware. The FTSB French guy said during the presser that they did not hear screaming until just moments before the crash - it was a gradual descent so I think no one knew until it was too late. But then again, couldn’t they hear the pilot pounding on the cockpit door? Maybe they WERE just out of cell range - they were in some pretty remote mountains sounds like. The FTSB guy said they can’t even land a helicopter, they have to load each dead person one at a time so it’s going to take a long time to get the area cleaned up.
Resembles the guy with the widows’ peak.
