Half-Japanese and half African-American, Miss Nagasaki Ariana Miyamoto is the first-ever mixed-race Miss Universe Japan.
But changing perceptions here can be an uphill struggle. In a culture that typically prefers pale -- where "pure Japanese" white skin is considered a symbol of beauty -- the darker skinned Miyamoto's crowning last week was a revolution on the runway.

Remember the first black Miss America, Vanessa Williams (who still looks good now). This girl looks as though she could be the result of Vanessa Williams and an unnamed Japanese ‘friend’. I hope she has a strong sense of self and was raised with lots of love, because the Japanese are not accustomed to such ‘exotic variety’ in their prominent citizens.

Remember the first black Miss America? She posed, hard core, for the pornography magazines, had her crown taken back, and wouldn’t you know it, the runner up and new Miss America was also black. It was a setup to destroy the Miss America Pageant.
Japan is a big target for the New World Order.
It’s Japan. They are a strong homogenous country. Anyone not 100% is Gaijin (foreigner). And you’ll know it.
Note nobody is demanding Japan dilute and ignore and teach how awful their culture is, for whatever minority is there. Unlike white America and white Europe.

I understand the point her detractors are making. I expect Miss Sweden to be white. I expect Miss Congo to be black. And I expect Miss Japan to be Japanese.

CNN merely advances the football another yard towards the goal:
A so-called “nation”, like Japan, proud of its heritage, traditions and standards, must not adhere to them if those standards could be construed to be ‘discriminatory’. They have no right to those standards if anyone is excluded.
In CNN’s New World, no locality has any right to impose standards on anyone. Those standards come from the central authority.

Also there is no such race as “white”. Only major races are Caucasian, Negroid and Mongoloid. Only time you might see “white” skin is when a person is dead.

Yes, go there, and you see & feel it (e.g., “Japanese Only” bars). The Japs are the most racist society on the planet.
With Japan’s negative (and falling) birthrate, this may be the wave of the future for them, anyway. If you are not having babies, the population has to be replenished somehow, or you will simply disappear. It’s happened before in history for various reasons, and in many places (not just Japan, but also in Europe and South Korea) it’s on the increase today. The US isn’t far behind. The only solution is healthy marriages between a man and a woman, throw out the birth control and abortions, and start having babies.
Public psychology. The Japaneese society alienates her. They don't value her success because of this, moreover it poses a problem to them - a success of someone who's not accepted is a peer. That's why they tend to downplay this.
