NEWTOWN, Conn. — The Connecticut home of the man who carried out the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary school has been demolished, Newtown officials said Tuesday.

The 2-acre lot where the 3,100-square-foot house once stood in a leafy, suburban neighborhood will be left as open space under a plan approved by town officials.

Several neighbors had asked for the building to be taken down, describing it as a constant reminder of the tragedy.

Among them, Dave Ackart said in a letter: “Not only is the property a constant reminder of the evil that resided there – those of us who walk, run, drive, ride or otherwise must pass it multiple times a day, are having a hard time moving on.”

I swear, I am no conspiracy nut! - Something's not right here. They demolish the school to the ground, and now they demolish the shooters house? When has that ever happened before?

They demolished the house based on what the neighbors felt? Doesn't seem right to me?

The workers who tore down Sandy Hook were sworn to secrecy, and the following comment was posted after a Sandy Hook article:

“One of the things I would like to see is the utility usage at that facility for the past 5 years, it should be consistent power wise. Those records are sealed by the court...why???”

Sandy Hook Truthers are about the lowest of the low when it comes to conspiracy nutters.

I agree. They are despicable people. Just as bad as the 9/11 "truthers" who maintain that was a government conspiracy.

I live in Newtown, not too far from the Sandy Hook section. I don't blame the town for taking down the house. The neighbors had to put up with a steady stream of out of towners driving through the neighborhood gawking at the house. It wasn't as if anybody was going to buy the house and live there.

Auction it off. The bank gets back some of their money, the city/county get taxes and some nice family will poof the bad vibes. Or for all the feel good folk, turn it into a home for abused women and children or some such. The town already got a boatload of $$$$$$ for parks so they don’t need another park which won’t be used so leaving it a bare spot of ground will preserve any perceived creepiness. That’s not going to stop gawkers driving by. I don’t see the neighbors moving out so it can’t be that scary. Good grief, the city council must believe in ghosts.

They would've demolished Columbine except the county had just spent millions refurbishing it. They still tore down what was essentially a brand-new library and turned it into an atrium, relocating yet another brand-new library elsewhere in the school.

Just last month here in Jacksonville they destroyed the home where a young girl was abducted and murdered.

All those options were discussed but the town voted to demolish the home. Right or wrong, it was their decision to make and the residents of the neighborhood agreed.

By the way, the home was deeded to the town to dispose with as they saw fit.
