Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told Megyn Kelly on Monday night that he was “glad” to see that students at Sen. Ted Cruz‘s (R-TX) presidential candidacy announcement at Liberty University were sporting “Stand with Rand” t-shirts. He went after Cruz for his approach to winning votes.
The event was part of the university’s convocation, which meant all students were required to attend. Paul said those students made it clear that just because they were forced to be there does not mean they were expressing support for Cruz’s candidacy.
On Cruz’s remarks, Paul said he was “traveling and busy” today but couldn’t find much to disagree with. Paul said he and Cruz come from the “same wing” of the Republican Party and have similar voting records.
“I guess what makes us different is probably our approach as to how we would make the party bigger,” Paul said, seemingly criticizing Cruz for “throwing out red meat,” rather than his personal approach of putting out “intellectually enticing” messages to new groups of people to expand the party’s reach, which he said is “the way to win general elections.” Overall, he argued, “winability” is a big factor that Cruz doesn’t seem to have.
Kelly also asked Paul if he can stand up to criticism from the mainstream media, to which Paul said the key to winning is attacking former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her “corruption” and “hypocrisy.”
Paul said there is “some type of announcement” on his potential candidacy coming on April 7th.
I smell a Paultard!
...apple and cinnamon...
Good start, Rand, go after fellow Republicans.
Will these clowns ever learn they’re supposed to be running against Democrats?
LOL
Throwing red meat won the US Senate in 2014. Shutting down the government in 2013 also won the US Senate in 2014.
Amazing.....’defending the Constitution and family’ is now considered “red meat”!
Step aside Rand Paul, you’ve already shown us your true stripes. Let a real man do the job. Cruz for president.
At CPAC, there was a Big Government Sucks rally. First up, Rand Paul. He spoke for about 10 min... Next up, Ted Cruz: spoke about 30 min.
That was the rally.
For all the world, it looked like Rand was the opening act.
This was also where I overheard the “stand with Rand” college kid trying to explain to his dubious peer how the problem isn’t big government but effective government - we just have to make sure the right people are in charge. Oh, and the Constitution was meant to be a “living” document so that it could change with the times. “Dude, it’s not like they could have predicted the Internet... “
I bit my tongue to keep from saying, “Dude, you’re obviously parroting your HS civics teacher and stop it! Because, she was an idiot.”
Well, throwing pablum hasn’t won anything for the Pubs for the last eight years, so what have they got to lose throwing read meat?
dWARf on drugs.
Voting to import more illegal alien xenos into America and give them freebies won’t win in 2016 either.
Mmmmm, a slice of tofu is so much better. Pass the alfalfa sprouts, Rand.
Ohhh Rand Paul, your such a laugh, “ Trowing Red Meat won’t win in 2016 “ since the last few elections have been anemic experience of lame canadates ?
What’s that Paul ? The Veggan veggitarain rising up inside you ?
If this is all that Rand Paul has got then he’s should resign from running already.
Get a clue Rand Paul ? This IS what the people want and need you dope.
NO MORE LAME MILK TOAST ANEMIC CANIDATES !
Why is Rand Paul obsessed with Ted Cruz?
He goes after Cruz all the time.
Does he think they are competing for support from the same base?
Rand Paul is another Martin O’Malley, just with longer bushy hair.
Each incremental bit of information I learn about Rand Paul pushes him farther down my list. I have come to the conclusion that he simply does not have what it takes to appeal to the post-Sophomore group of voters.
I watched the entire interview on Megyn Kelly
It was a decent interview and this one line is way way out of context
Rand pretty politely differentiated himself from Ted
They are not foes
Folks here need to check it out
The problem with Rand is his last name.
