The nation's largest Presbyterian denomination has rewritten its definition of marriage and has authorized same-sex weddings nationwide.

By Tuesday evening, a majority of presbyteries or regional governing bodies had voted to ratify an amendment to the constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), allowing but not requiring its pastors to perform same-sex weddings and its churches to host such rites.

The Detroit assembly also had given immediate permission for pastors to conduct same-sex marriages in states where it's legal, such as Pennsylvania. But the amendment now extends that permission nationwide.

It defines marriage as a "unique commitment between two people, traditionally a man and woman" but no longer limited by gender.

PCUSA has been circling the sewer drain for years.

Looks like they’ve finally fallen completely into the sewer.

My grandmother was a stout Presbyterian and she's probably revolving at 1800 RPM in her grave for what they have done to her faith.

"Gay" marriage isn't.

“By their fruits you will know them.” No pun intended.
God’s way or man’s way. So sad.

My wife’s church here is very conservative. So much so the pastor sent an open letter to the congregation which pretty much could be summed up in a few words: No, and if you don’t like it go elsewhere.

TWO people?, what the hell kind of bigot limits "marriage" to two people?

Is that some kind of quaint "tradition?", two people?

Hah, only in states where the civil authorities patted them on the head and told them it is OK. Think about that. Even though they believe it is possible according to their faith, the state’s authority and their location determines if they will marry their own members or not.

“Sorry Jim and Larry, even though we believe you should be married our state says you can’t, and they decide these things for us.” Way to fight the power!

It makes perfect sense for the PCUSA to do this. The whole point of the PCUSA (and ELCA and TEC) for most of its younger members is to provide spiritual validation for their lifestyle choices and political views. People who take scripture seriously (whether Protestant, Catholic or Orthodox) were not about to start to worship at their local PCUSA church if the national body had decided against gay marriage, but it DEFINITELY is the case that the core membership would stroll on over to a more liberal congregation. It’s already happening to Methodists outside of the South.

Is it doomed in the end? Yes, of course — the kids being raised in these hyper-liberal churches mostly end up irreligious, or if by chance they actually pick up a faith in scripture, moving on to more serious churches. But in the meantime it’s what they need to do to survive.

I did the same with the Lutheran church I went to, an ELCA church. Thankfully the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod adhered to God’s Word so I found a home there.

If your tired of Political Correctness at the PCUSA, come to the PCA (Presbyterian Church in America).

We hold that marriage is still between one woman and one man under God. That the Bible is the Inerrant, Infallible, Complete Word of God. And that men and women know their roles according to the Scriptures.

If your tired of the PC of the Liberal churches, come join us in a breath of fresh clean air.
