President Barack Obama is considering agreeing to a United Nations Security Council resolution embodying the principles of a two-state solution that would be based on the pre-1967 lines between Israel and the West Bank and Gaza Strip and mutually agreed swaps, a senior administration official has told the New York Times.
Security experts along with Israels Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, have long argued that pushing Israel back to its pre-1967 Arab-Israeli war boundaries would make it impossible for the Israeli military to defend the Jewish state.
The premise of our position internationally has been to support direct negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians, a senior White House officials who refused to reveal their identity told the Times. We are now in a reality where the Israeli government no longer supports direct negotiations. Therefore we clearly have to factor that into our decisions going forward.
Some have argued that the administrations new pressure towards the Jewish state stems from anger over Netanyahus successful reelection as the countrys Prime Minister.
The Israeli Prime Minister has previously explained directly to Obama why the 67 lines are non-negotiable for Israels defense. Israel wants peace. I want peace, but a peace based on illusions will crash eventually on the rocks of Middle Eastern reality, Netanyahu explained to the President in a 2011 meeting.
President Obama took the position in 2011 that the borders of Israel and a future Palestinian state should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps.

I hope the Brits (not on good terms with Obama) veto any UN action. Churchill would.
UK may well veto, maybe even France.
0bama really wants to push Israel back to its pre-1948 borders, but not to its Bronze and Iron Age borders or to its borders from before the Roman conquest of 63 BC, 6 AD, and 135 AD. It’s all about wiping out the Jews, and indefensible borders are an attractive first step to bigots who are hoping for genocide.
The propaganda machine appears to be a worldwide effort against Israel.
The simplest explanation is the best: destruction. Giving up the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem, etc., eliminates the high ground and moral imperative Israel has. They WON territory to protect themselves.
A curse upon those who voted for Obama.
Giving up the Golan Heights gives Israel’s enemies the ability to hit the entire country with artillery fire. Israelis are not suicidal
For the UK, it depends on what Netanyahu does! The British government actually blocked the Jews every way they could to try and prevent them from having a state in 1948. They are STILL NOT FRIENDS OF ISRAEL ... they never really have been!!
British deputy PM: If Netanyahu rejects two-state solution, U.K. will recognize Palestine

If Netanyahu rules out a Palestinian state and expands West Bank settlements, ‘the world, including the British parliament, would have no option, but to recognize a Palestinian state,’ says Nick Clegg.
British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reneging support for a two-state solution, saying that if the Israeli leader does not backtrack from those remarks, Britain would have no choice but to recognize a Palestinian state.
Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, called Netanyahu’s vow not to create a Palestinian state “alarming,” the Guardian reported Thursday.
Netanyahu, while campaigning Monday, said that if he were to be reelected, a Palestinian state would not be created, in a definite disavowal of his 2009 speech, in which he had voiced support for the principle of two states for two peoples.
