President Obama, whose party was trounced in last year’s midterm election due to poor turnout among Democrats, endorsed the idea of mandatory voting Wednesday.
“It would be transformative if everybody voted,” Mr. Obama said during a town-hall event in Cleveland. “That would counteract [campaign] money more than anything. If everybody voted, then it would completely change the political map in this country.”
Mr. Obama raised the subject during a discussion of curbing the influence of campaign donations in U.S. elections. The president said he had never discussed the idea publicly before, but said Australia and some other countries have compulsory voting.

If you don’t vote, there will be an IRS penalty, income based of course.
This is a hallmark of communism - everything is either mandatory or prohibited.
The federal government can require you to vote.
You must mark it off on your tax form.
A tax penalty will be due if you did not vote.
We have precedent for this already.

If you don’t vote, you’ll be fined. If you vote for the “wrong” party, you’ll be fined. Further, this is Obama blaming the people for the failures of the dem party.
In a free country people aren’t FORCED to vote... aren’t force to buy certain products or FORCED to eat some foods on Monday and different ones on Friday.

He’d get a two-fer implementing mandatory voting. The complacent are more likely to vote for the “free stuff” candidate when compelled to vote. The liberty-minded are more likely to stay home in a gesture (however small) of F U. Both work in his favor.
There’s a reason the Founders limited voting to landowners: they were more interested in liberty than compulsory benefitting from others.

Question: Aren’t voting laws determined at least to some extent by the various States and overseen by the Feds? If that’s the case....can Obama actually issue an edict to mandate compulsory voting?
Obama wants mandatory, but is opposed to voter ID. How is this gonna work?
