“I’ve paid my taxes, obeyed the laws and have been a good citizen supporting the community with donations,” the former SCE worker wrote. “I voted for President Obama and was appalled that he implemented a rule change, which allows work permits to H-1B spouses. My future votes will only go to candidates that support reforms to the H-1B visa program that preserve the American worker.”

Great, they’re holding hearings, so is anything going to get done, or is this just theater?

No you’re an inept pathetic loser who voted for a narcissistic socialist POS and you got exactly what common sense would have told you were getting.

Penalize corporations via the tax code to the point where it costs more to engage in this practice than it does to employ an American.

But Government regulations are the reason why corporations can't afford to hire (legal) Americans in the first place.

More Government isn't the answer.

Instead, why not reduce the formidable barriers to hiring Americans?

I'm thinking here of minimum wage laws and the horrendous Obamacare regulations but I'm sure that FReepers can think of other examples.

That is true, evidently Silicon Valley thinks it is such a paradise that all campaign donations are going to turn the rest of the country into California (only without sun, surf, and stable temperatures).

Well if you vote for the guy who promises you free stuff paid for by someone else, you have to understand that he is promising someone else free stuff paid for by you, including with your job.

I wonder how old this IT person is? I’d guess a young one.

sounds like he’s a dem

clinton started the H1b bs. GW reduced it. 0bama increased it.

the dem party is the party of govt assistance. they have a VESTED INTEREST in getting people into a position to NEED govt assistance.

people really need to understand that.

I think in the case of the president, this is about being a magnanimous Citizen of the World by propping up the economies of other countries with these visas.

They don’t have to pay income taxes on the H1B workers apparently.

it has nothing to do with that. a handful of jobs will do nothing to improve those countries.

but it does trip up our IT sector which has direct impacts on our defense sector

This is not a handful of jobs, India was quite put out a couple of years ago about the failure of 26% of H1B and L1 (they get to stay for 5 years if they are from India) visa applications. These visas are being used to prop up developing world economies as well as being a job training program.

All I can add is that the worker got what he voted for.

If he thinks this wouldn't have happened under a Romney administration then he's deluding himself. Screwing American workers has been a bipartisan pastime for decades.

This is a huge, and very important issue.

BOTH PARTIES have completely sold out American workers.

Both parties. Someone will eventually stand up for Americans. When they do they will win, and win big.

Who will stand up for Americans? Democrats or Republicans? Who?

(and when?)

I’m just a 6 class crash course PC repair grad from 2000 and I’m essentially 3rd in command of US MIS operations for an international corporation. The the leaders have 20 plus years on me. That came from a lot of contract and suffering in a couple of horrible support jobs.

IT unemployment in Charlotte is like less than 1%. I can’t find employees. Repent of your Obama-voting sin, and if you have any talent, come interview!

(As a lib, though, probably has no talent and just feels entitled to a job.)

Your insistence that IT jobs can be taken with training is just silly. Good systems engineer is akin to brain surgery. You have the aptitude or not. Many don’t. I have had plenty of employees with Masters in computer science who still can’t code their way out of a paper bag.

Careful, lest you sound like a Democrat who insists that everyone is suited for higher education! Computer programming is the same thing.
