Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock is resigning his seat in Congress.
The 33-year-old Republican has been dogged by questions about his spending of taxpayer and campaign dollars. On Monday afternoon, POLITICO posed a lengthy set of questions about charging the government and his campaign tens of thousands of dollars in questionable mileage reimbursements.

Well, it’s better for them to admit it than for it come out in scandalous fashion, ala Mark Foley.
The district is safe.
No Republican in IL is a shoe in for Senator, BTW.
There is no opening anyway. Kirk is running for reelection, Durbin is leaving feet first.
From what I've been reading online (see above) it looks like this may evolve rather quickly into a LaThug Jr. vs. Jil Tracy matchup for the Republican nomination. Since it will be a special election, we won't have much time. Tracy is a solid downstate conservative mom with a more experienced track record in the state legislature than Darin "daddy got me this seat" LaThug and should be the obvious choice for grassroots conservatives to support. Dillard tapped her as his running mate in 2014, but that was to shore up his appeal to the GOP base and the pick was widely applauded.
The legions of useful idiot conservatives who praise LaThug redux as a great conservative (sadly you can find them all over cyberspace and at IL Tea Party events) remind me of the birther morons who touted Donald Trump as the Tea Party savior.
Knowing the Combine tactics, they’ll probably try to destroy her if she enters.
Democrat redistricters packed so many Republicans into the IL-18 (Democrat precincts in Peoria were placed in the RAT-leaning IL-17 and Democrat precincts in Springfield, Normal and Bloomington were placed in the marginal IL-13) that whoever wins the GOP nomination will win the special election without breaking a sweat. If Jil Tracy runs against LaHood’s son in the primary, then she’d be the obvious choice for conservatives. Hopefully Jil Tracy runs and no other prominent conservative jumps in, since IL does not have primary run- offs and we can’t let LaHood Jr. sneak in with under 40% because the conservative vote got split.
Two notes:
1. If elected, Jil Tracy would become the first pro-life conservative woman ever elected to Congress from Illinois (or at least the first since Congress started voting on abortion-related issues after Roe v. Wade). The only GOP congresswomen from IL since 1973 were Lynn Martin and Judy Biggert, both of whom were virulently pro-abortion.
2. Always remember that Mrs. Tracy’s first name is spelled “Jil,” with only one L. I mistakenly looked up “Jill Tracy” (with two Ls) and got some weird musician from San Francisco.
Run Jil, run.
I hope that ex-Rep. Tracy will win partly because, if Sen. LaHood wins, his district’s republican chairmen will appoint his replacement. That person will be at least as liberal as he is.
Oberweis on the wrong side, again:
Thankfully all the other posts on IR (including mine) are anti-LaHood spawn.
I’ve been very disappointed with Oberweis since his ill-fated U.S. Senate bid. He’s another guy who started out pretty solid in the IL Senate (even vocally leading the effort to oust Pat Brady as IL GOP Chairman). Lately, he’s taken the wrong side on numerous hot-button issues. Champioing LaThug Jr. is just the latest one.
I’m shocked.
Uberdouche himself makes comments on IL Review? Are you sure it’s really him?
Another name emerges, Former Congressman from CD 17 Bobby Schilling.
Meanwhile, Rauner is working behind the scenes for LaThug, trying to bribe Jil Tracy into instead challenging vulnerable rat State Senator John Sullivan in 2016.

Bobby Schilling appears to be a go for the special election. He’s making a “special announcement” later today.
In other news, it’s being reported that Cleland in a skirt (Suckworthless) is throwing her hat into the ring against Kirk.
Many of you feel differently but I would literally crawl over broken glass to vote for Kirk’s RINO keister over that disgrace.
Will any other rats dare to primary the “wounded warrior”?
Yesterday, on WGN-AM news, an anchorman said, “Congressman Bill Foster indicated he’s going to run for the U.S. Senate.”
Which Republicans will run for Congress in the 8th & 11th Districts?
Joe Walsh could try again in the 8th, but he appears to want to try to dislodge the execrable Kirk. As for Foster’s 11th, I’m not sure. I’m surprised Oberweis wouldn’t try again, bleh.
I hope that snooty bastard Foster does run too, then at least one of those turds would be guaranteed to be out of Congress.
While Walsh did better than I thought he would in 2012, we need a candidate without his baggage to win. While there are no shortage of rats to take Bammy’s place, I think a good candidate would have a decent shot.
I’m inclined to give Senger another go at an open 11th, but I’m less optimistic of our chances there. GD Aurora and Joliet in a POTUS year...
Although POTUS voting was nearly identical in the 8th and 11th, the 11th seems worse to me.
Schilling out. He was mulling a run against LaThug Jr. but “changed his mind” overnite and endorsed daddy’s boy. $50 says the combine twisted his arm and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse (the same thing that happened when Jim Durkin threatened to run against Kirk for the Senate after his cap n’ trade vote, then did a 180o about face and endorsed him):

I was going to point out that it’s hard to say whether Schilling or Jil Tracy would be stronger against LaThug, but its a mute point now. Tracy is still “undecided” as of right now. The combine has been trying to talk her into instead running against downstate RAT state senator John Sullivan in 2016. She’s be foolish to take that bait. Sullivan defeated a 12 term GOP incumbent in a Republican friendly district during a big upset. He was considered “vunerable” for a while because of the old lines of the district, but won re-election handily and the district has since been redrawn by the RATs to lean much more RAT. It would be an uphill battle to defeat Sullivan. On the other hand, if Tracy can defeat the LaThug machine in the primary, the general election would be a cakewalk.
Fieldmarshaldj accurately predicted that the combine & GOP establishment is working hard behind the scenes to “clear the field” for LaThug to be coronated. If they can’t bribe Tracy, they’ll try blackmailing her next.
What sickening is numerous “grassroot conservatives” and “Tea Party activists” are joining hands with Rauner and the combine to cheerlead for LaThug’s son and heap praise on him.
Well isn’t that “special”.
While I hope Tracy instead runs for Congress and wins I disagree that the scumbag Sullivan is so hard to beat and doesn’t deserve the utmost level of targeting just cause he beat Laura Kent Donahue, who hadn’t faced a competitive race in a long time. He must be defeated, a dent in this preposterous rat supermajority must be made.
His MOV over then Circuit Court Clerk of Adams County (and now State Rep, taking Tracy’s seat unopposed last year) Randy Frese in 2012, with Obama carrying the district, was solid but hardly Earth shattering. Tracy would be a stronger candidate running in a year where the rat at the top of the ticket probably won’t be doing as well as Obama did. Both House districts are Republican, Sullivan doesn’t belong there and needs to go. Rock Island county elected a Republican Senator last year, he can and should be beaten.
This being “Chinatown” I bet she takes Rauner’s offer (which was a shrewd one). I was hoping Schilling would run so she could take it and beat Sullivan without leaving us dicking around for an alternative to LaThug.
I wonder if LaThug Sr. had his friends in the Osama administration arrange this little investigation of our fruity friend Aaron. It all seems so convenient.
Unfortunately it looks like I was wrong about this open seat quickly evolving into a two person race. I hope it doesn’t end up like the last Florida U.S. Senate primary where every week we had a new “Connie Mack IV challenger” being floated. We need to rally around one non-LaThug candidate soon.
Latest person to express interest in opposing LaThug is ED Brady — Bill Brady’s younger brother:
LaThug Jr.'s rollout was so perfectly choreographed that this seems a likely possibility. He didn't even wait until the corpse was cold to kick off his campaign. I think LaThug Jr. announced his candidacy within hours of Schock holding his resignation press conference.
