For the first time, the General Social Survey -- a large, national survey conducted every two years and widely considered to represent the gold standard for public opinion research -- shows a majority of Americans favoring the legalization of marijuana.
In interviews conducted between March and October of last year -- when the legal marijuana markets in Colorado and Washington were ramping up -- researchers asked 1,687 respondents the following question: "Do you think the use of marijuana should be made legal or not?"
Fifty-two percent said pot should be legalized, 42 percent opposed it, and another 7 percent were undecided. Support is up 9 percentage points from 2012 the last time the survey was conducted.

And when a lot of people start becoming permanently brain damaged from it, and the other deleterious effects of marijuana use become apparent, will the majority still favor legalization?
Marijuana doesn’t just affect the user, it can affect future children.
Who is going to support all the potheads when they can’t support themselves? (That’s a rhetorical question: it all comes back to “From each according to his means to each according to his needs.”)
Gee, I wonder if the increase in depicting drug use as neutral or even positive by the media has had an impact...
You do understand it’s been used by populations all over the earth for centuries, don’t you? We’ve spent billions to control it and it’s still about the largest cash crop in the US. We’ve nearly destroyed the Constitution in these enforcement efforts and have little control to show for it.
NECESSARY DISCLAIMER: The strongest drug I use is black coffee and an 81 mg aspirin every morning. I do not use alcohol, nicotine or any other “recreational” drug and think use of any of them is pretty stupid.
The country “is going to pot” in more ways than one can count! When the majority of the country has to be in an ALTERED STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS to get through the day ... we’re basically done for as a country!
This country is finished if the majority is “FOR” people being POT-HEADS!
Obama’s America.
A nation of dopeheads.
Do it
The war in drugs is stupid and destructive
Reefer Madness redux.
Response: So what.
I actually think this is great embodiment of what Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis called the laboratories of democracy,' Cruz said. If the citizens of Colorado decide they want to go down that road, thats their prerogative. I dont agree with it, but thats their right."
--Ted Cruz at CPAC
Yeah, that’s what they said. Weed, like reading comprehension, isn’t for everyone.
Damn, I’d swear it was Dec. 5, 1933 all over again.
Exactly how ‘bad’ and for how long was the uptick when Prohibition was superseded vs. crime (political and organized...but, I repeat myself)?
Instead of the nags of ‘no lips that touch liquor shall touch ours’, it has come 180 to the ‘staunch defenders of Liberty and the Constitution’.
Sad. At least the nags did it properly and LEGALLY
Its interesting that 1,687 respondents are a statistically correct way to determine a national majority.

The War on Drugs is a total failure. The only people that are passionate for it to continue are lawyers, the bail bond business, prison guards, private prison corporations, the police, the liquor industry, and control freaks on both the left and right.
We have lost so many rights in this war on the only result is a boated, expensive, corrupt, and ineffective police state while drug use has gone up and criminal cartels have become rich and powerful.
The DEA tried to warn us and we just laughed. Fools.
Yep! Obama and people like him would like NOTHING BETTER than have a nation of POTHEADS! That’s a Liberal’s dream!
When americans are mostly high they won’t know what their voting for...
WAIT!...... didn’t that happen 30 years ago?..
AND it’s just much worse NOW?..

The most accurate pollster for the 2012 election was PPP. Their sample size was 1,096. This was actually a larger sample than most of the other pollsters. You can see the data here =>
