Republicans are particularly confident in their ability to survive an apocalypse
Many Americans have experience with natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes but each time that one hits an area of the country it is apparent that few people take disaster preparation as seriously as the government tells them to. When people are often so woefully unprepared for a hurricane or earthquake, what hope is there if civilization as we know it were to collapse?
Research from YouGov shows that Americans are relatively optimistic about their fate in the event of an apocalyptic event. People tend to say that their survival time in the event of an apocalypse would be roughly the same as most people in their community (42%). 32% say that they'd live longer than most while 11% think that they'd end up dying early on. There is a significant partisan split on this question, however. 43% of Republicans say that they would survive longer than most people in their community, something only 22% of Democrats say. 47% of Democrats say that they'd live as long as most other people in their community.
Should an apocalypse hit, one of the biggest questions everyone would face is whether to stay put or try and seek shelter somewhere else. Most Americans (62%) say that they would try to brave it out at home, but 38% say that they'd evacuate their current location and try to seek shelter somewhere else. People who live in cities (46%) are particularly likely to say that they would leave home and go elsewhere, while people in rural areas (78%) are the most likely to say that they would stay at home to try and survive ...

No need to do anymore homework than peek out the window at the neighbor’s rebel flag.
I've heard that "I'd rather die" excuse countless times. They have car insurance but they'd rather die than lift a finger so their children don't die.
But they'd all hit the freeway at the same time and end up moving five feet per hour.

As things stand now, I have both a wood house and soft body armor that wouldn't hold up to "standard" rifle roundsmuch less armor-piercing. I do have enough sheet metal to install inside to prevent wood spalling injuries. Other access to my wooden house (which could be burned) is blocked by a very tenacious and spine-edged vine.
My original objection was that 223 would become widespread even through light Republican attrition, and non-interchangeable calibers would keep Democrats relatively unarmed.
A police officer was shot and killed years ago while wearing body armor. ("Blunt trauma") The caliber? 45-70, originally made for black powder propellant in 1873.

the FSA will have a purpose during SHTF, since eventually we will run out of dog food...
It sure does.... Wife read it since I insisted... after first chapter, she couldn’t put it down and now is very much a prepper with me...
One aspect of an Apocalyptic Event:
It will eliminate the government as middle-man in wealth redistribution.
Obama's Free S**t Army and mobs of other democrats will be be coming directly to our homes
for their free stuff rather than waiting for the federal government to extort it for them.
“Good to know since CWII is coming any month now.”
Won’t be anything ‘civil’ about what’s coming...call it ‘revolutionary’. And I am betting on the Left being annihilated by the Right. This time the ‘redcoats’ win! As Yamamoto said, ‘a rifle behind every blade of grass’...ready to be used for the purpose set out in the 2nd Amendment...Molon labe!
I kept wondering if characters like in “One Second After” were to be in charge after a SHTF incident they would be creating a communist government and no way would I participate.
What I have in preps are to be shared with people of my choice, NOT a damn communist group who wants me to put my stuff in a public grab bag. I may (most probably will) share my precious metals such as lead and copper.
Hopefully, your instincts are still shared by lots of people in this country. I can't speak for other countries as well as some places in this country like California, Massachusetts and New York, however, I believe the Founding Principles in this country, which are dependent on the tradition of Personal Property, are still very strong in the conservative flyover areas and that in those areas barter processes will develop overnight to preserve some semblance of individual ownership.
I read this novel of yours recently and it helped put me in a rational, philosophical, frame-of-mind to prepare for a major emergency. Thank you!
An important part of any survival plan in the event of TEOTWAWKI is to eradicate all liberals in your area of control.
They probably helped to cause TEOTWAWKI and they lack any useful skills except eating.
They are essentially zombies when the lights go out, so it is prudent to treat them as such.
dear huldah,
vaht! vaht! you t’ink mebbe vhere i should go, d’ese t’ings t’ink tah happen???? Vaht?
:)
As you can see, where I listed them, some are peculiar to that area, only.
I moved inland, from a minus 20 feet, (the New Orleans area), to a whole 80 feet ABOVE sea level, even though there are still bayous, swamps and ‘gators, near the Red River, located WSW of Natchez, MS and NW of Baton Rouge. The larger town has ONE coffee shop!
Oh yeah ,,, when hurricane gustav came through, i was in the recuperative section of the V.A. hospital. it was a separate u-shaped building, with a raised walkway-sidewalk for the handicapped folks in their motorized chairs. Well, the hurricane came, the building was fine, BUT ,,,,, with the addition of the walkway, all that water seeped into the building, to a two-inch depth. At the time, i was just getting out of my electric hospital bed ... splash. It was a mess!!!!!
I hope it was unplugged!
dear huldah,
who wrote, “”DonkeyKong”.”
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh, noooo, but it didn’t short out, yet I was waiting for that, with held breath!
Sorry, but I don’t get the donkeykong thing. I am pretty old so I’ll use that as an excuse?
Shigeru Miyamoto? Miya moto is running slowly.
dear huldah,
you are excused.
