The California Supreme Court decided unanimously Monday that blanket statewide restrictions on where sex offenders may live violate the constitutional rights of parolees in San Diego County and potentially those in other counties.
The residential limits, passed by voters in 2006 as Jessica's Law, bar registered sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a school or park where children gather, regardless of whether the crimes involved children. Sex offenders in San Diego challenged the restrictions, saying that they made it impossible to find a place to live.

2,000 feet is too far. It’s basically a bill that requires people to commit suicide.
theres a giant crack in the wall of moral defense..and its widening far more rapidly than I could have imagined
And yet another reason I’m glad we left Cali.
This might sound crazy, but if they’re that dangerous then WHY ARE WE LETTING THEM OUT OF PRISON?
Or move out of state.
I'd have limited it to people whose sexual offenses involved children, though.
Other deviants don't pose much of a risk to anyone/thing that doesn't fit their particular deviancy template.
And child molesters do have a very high recidivism rate.
crazy NOT!
THe repeat rate amongst convicted offenders is no laughing matter.
California is on the brink..of utter and complete anarchy!
Agreed. (minority of one here) I don't like these bans. We're supposed to be a nation of forgiveness after a person has served their time and is not a threat to society. If a person is a threat, keep them imprisoned.
I agree with bans on working with children for those who abused children, as a condition of release.
Many are out on a technicality.
The perverts can live just about anywhere they want except where the wealthy politicians and judges reside.
I understand that and I could support a death penalty for sex offenses against children. I just have a problem with a less than honest justice system. If we are going to create conditions that are effectively death penalty conditions, than why not be upfront about what we really want as a penalty?
Once again, the voters spoke and the courts told them to shut up. It happened with prop 108, anti-illegal immigration, prop 8, anti-gay marriage, and now this.
People like to badmouth California, but the people here have been trying for common sense for some time, and it keeps being thwarted.
I heard that!
There is a simple solution so that no one’s rights get violated.
Sex offenders (I’m talking serious sex offenders, not some made-up political classification) never again see the light of day.
No one has to track them. No little boys (or girls, as the case may be) are raped. Parents can sleep at night.
I can see no down side.
The same reasoning I use regarding infringements upon the second amendment. Anyone who can't be trusted to be armed should not be running around loose!
the incidents of short sentences..are far too numerous.
if one perpetrates on a kid...thats ALL she wrote as far as Im concerned
Bring back the rope!!
