White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed Monday that President Obama is "very interested" in the idea of raising taxes through unitlateral executive action.
"The president certainly has not indicated any reticence in using his executive authority to try and advance an agenda that benefits middle class Americans," Earnest said in response to a question about Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calling on Obama to raise more than $100 billion in taxes through IRS executive action.
"Now I don't want to leave you with the impression that there is some imminent announcement, there is not, at least that I know of," Earnest continued. "But the president has asked his team to examine the array of executive authorities that are available to him to try to make progress on his goals. So I am not in a position to talk in any detail at this point, but the president is very interested in this avenue generally," Earnest finished.
Sanders sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew Friday identifying a number of executive actions he believes the IRS could take, without any input from Congress, that would close loopholes currently used by corporations. In the past, IRS lawyers have been hesitant to use executive actions to raise significant amounts of revenue, but that same calculation has change in other federal

Sounds like a business opportunity to me.
“Obama keeps trying to find something that will cause the people to rise up in rebellion, so he can call out the troops and take over the country.”
That’s it, then declare martial law. I think he’s holding that strategy until it’s a little closer to election time.
That’s what I was saying last week, this country is going to end up one of two ways: As a totalitarian state or a country in rebellion ala 1776. Since the majority of the country seems more concerned about the Kardashians than they care about their rights going away, it looks like a totalitarian state. The people are fat and lazy sheep and they will get trampled. It will suck but I must say I’m going to enjoy watching all these libs deal with living under a North Korean type country. That will be my one solace in the coming hell.
i think it would end bad for Obummer because I have a theory the troops would disobey direct orders and side with the civilians and be the ones rebelling as well because NOBODY hates this mofo Obama more than they do. The military and the cops would LOVE to see this punk ass in cuffs doing the perp walk. This administration has absolutely no idea the kind of fire they are playing with.

On Taxation Without Representation, consider the 640,000 citizens of Washington, DC (more population than Wyoming and Vermont) who have full IRS taxation and no vote in either House or Senate. Now 70% of DC voters have approved a legalized marijuana Initiative this past November, but some Republicans in Congress are trying to stop it’s implementation by forbidding the DC government to spend any of DC’s local tax money to regulated or tax marijuana. For the moment the DC government position is that anyone 21 or over can have up to 6 plants growing at home (3 can be mature), can smoke in their own home, can walk on the street with up to 2 ounces on their person, and can give marijuana to anyone over 21, but cannot be paid for it. In Maryland efforts are being made to also legalize it there with somewhat similar provisions as DC’s. Of course in Maryland they will be able to tax and regulate it since they are an actual state, something DC residents have been struggling to become for many years.
If you think we have bad taxes, look at Finland where a rich man is being fined $60,000 for a 14 mph over the limit speeding ticket. Lots of strong comments pro and con at:

Fortunately we have our Constitution, Article 8, “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted. Could the people of DC claim that it is a cruel punishment to be paying far more federal taxes than they receive back in federal payment or programs and not even have a vote on how their tax payments are used?
Since a number of FReepers are dedicated to the Constitution, you are right, it won’t happen. Constitution, Amendments, Article 1, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;... Constitution, Article 6, “...but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” While being a FReeper is not an office or public trust, it would seem to be hard to be a Constitution loving FReeper and a supporter of our having a religious King, much less agreeing to same.
By inset too. DC is not a state and therefore not the same rights and privileges. They can vote for President and a non voting rep to congress. If DC residents want state privileges they should move to a real state.
agreeing that Jesus will be our only King,
Jesus Christ our Savior is King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace ... irrespective of any merely human construct (as, for example, the US Constitution). Nothing you, or I, or anybody else says will change that fact.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
If more Americans would recognize that FACT, they might get back to doing things like maybe respecting the Constitution, and the limits its authors tried to place on mere earthly government.
The fate of the U.S. Constitution is going to be that of any other human promise without some sense of reverence intervening. That you don’t just break a promise without an excellent reason.
Since DC residents can only vote for a President and Vice President, but not a Representative or 2 Senators, shouldn’t they only be charged 2/5ths federal taxation? That would be fair and 640,000 would not have the choice of overpaying their taxes or moving and giving up their homes and usually their jobs. Like all other US citizens, DC citizens don’t want Taxation Without Representation.
No. They should move.
But DC residents are not like all other US citizens, because they do not live in a state.
I support retrocession to Maryland, but until then, anyone who wants representation in Congress can move.
Screw you NUMBNUTS OBAMA!!!
They should all be in prison for being complicit in crimes against Americans.
