The next phase of work on the Navy's largest ever warship is underway, with the upper decks of the huge vessel gradually taking form.
Workers were seen on board HMS Queen Elizabeth in Rosyth Dock in Fife, some seven months after being first floated on the River Forth.
She was unveiled by the Queen in 2014 after the ordinarily dry dock was flooded with water.
The ship is Britain's largest ever maritime vessel weighing 65,000 tonnes and measuring 918ft from bow to stern. At almost 230ft, she stands as tall as Niagara Falls from the keel to the masthead.
Once completed she will have enough room to transport 36 F-35 Lightning fighter jets, though only three of the 48 ordered from U.S. manufacturers have so far been delivered.
The ship's hull was beginning to take form today with some of its nine decks becoming visible.
The cost of fitting out the ship has spiraled drastically since plans for its construction were revealed. In 2008 an initial contract for its completion was priced at £3.2billion.

What would the U.K. do without its ultimate reference point - double decker bus!
Sighted? Sighted?
What has the reported been doing all this time?
The shipyard would have been completing the outfitting of details in/on the ship. It may simply be that the ship has been moved to another pier so that it is now easier to see and photograph her. As we know, unless a member of the press has seen something, it didn’t actually happen. /sarc.
Will Britain’s new aircraft carrier solely be dedicated to the vertical take off F-35 ?
If so then these new carriers will be shorter but larger in gerth to store those vertical take off F-35 ?
Fat Queen Carriers/Big Mamas.
A new Olympic summer sport, jumping the carrier ramps with water skids then splashing into the ocean.
Smaller carrier, greater utility and in theory lower maintenance costs... Until you arrive at the new tech part.
Just don’t name it the Mary Rose.
“What would the U.K. do without its ultimate reference point - double decker bus!”
Apparently, among other things, they’d be at a loss to describe to us the weight of the ship’s anchors!
How long before they convert it to a mosque?
....and this is an OLDIE.
Why do I think it’s maiden voyage or possibly even the sea trials will be conducted in the South Atlantic Ocean somewhere near the Falklands...
Strange that they thought the Brig is important enough to be illustrated.
It looks really good, any idea when it will be in service?
They should have built a normal carrier. They bought into the F-35 and built a ship for it. Now the aircraft are not ready. They do not even have guns that can be fired yet after a couple of decades.
Interesting other problem. The bombs if the enemy had them would take out a fleet in no time.

How long before threads like this are ruined by silly comments?.
We have our answer.
“Britain’s new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth sighted in River Forth”
Well, it’s not like they’ve been trying to hide the thing.
“Lighten up, Francis!”
It DOES get very wearing, any thread about the UK and some ‘joker’ will make a Britain is Muslim type comment.
yeah- and 3? brigs?
how many sailors?- ? any royal marines?- (since they show the Chinook)
Does Britain allow women?
I assume the Harrier 2 will also be used?
No missiles?
