Well, Briefly, Purim is this:

Esther, a Jewish girl, wins a beauty contest and is taken into the harem of the King of Persia. She quickly becomes his favorite, but she hides her heritage from him.

Esther’s Uncle Mordecai, a Scribe in the court, fails to bow down to Haman, and evil vizier, and thus provokes Haman’s hatred for all Jews.

Mordecai uncovers an assassination plot against the King, and he his given special honor, which cheeses off Haman even more.

Haman tricks the King into signing an irrevocable Edict to KILL ALL THE JEWS.

Mordecai finds out about the edict and asks Esther to approach the King and plead for her people, even if her breach of protocol could mean her death.

Esther asks the people to fast and pray for her, and goes before the King.

The King believes her, but he can’t rescind the edict, so he ARMS the Jews, and they “take care of business”.

Haman and his sons are hanged for treason.

(That’s the Whole Megillah, LTOS Style)

(”Megillah” is another name for the Book of Esther in the bible, which tells this exciting story!)

I remember that story, but didn’t know there was a holiday for it! Esther was a very brave woman!

One Night With the King

I’m not posting at the Canteen today, but wanted to catch up on pings from yesterday, so here I am.

So, you’ll be in Spokane for 3 days for the surgery? Glad to know that you’ll have someone to escort you. Are they taking you and dropping you off, then coming to get you afterwards? I know the surgery is supposed to be a breeze but I’ll be praying for you on the 5th.

Training my replacement is going well. This month I’ll be turning over (temp) a few of the processes to see how she does. If she does well, then in April, I’ll turn over a few more. I’m trying to determine if I can retire at the end of September instead of the end of December.

We’re in for another day or two of crappy weather. Come on summer!!!!
