Leonard Nimoy dead at 83: ‘Star Trek’ star lived long and prospered

Leonard Nimoy, who lived long and prospered, died Friday at his Los Angeles home.

The creator of Mr. Spock, television’s most beloved pointy-eared half-Vulcan, was 83 and had suffered for several years from chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), which makes it difficult to breathe.

“I quit smoking 30 yrs ago,” he tweeted last week. “Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP.”

“LLAP” was Spock’s best-known catch phrase: Live long and prosper.

To many of his fans, Leonard Nimoy was a one-hit wonder.

One hit that lasted half a century.

Nimoy created the beloved Mr. Spock in the 1960s cult TV show “Star Trek” and brought him back to life in movies, sequels, cartoons and spinoffs for the rest of his life.

See? This is why I’m always nice to old guys who show up in Vietnam bomber jackets or are wearing a ‘Korea’ ball cap.

We were ALL Hotties back in the day! :)

Amen. Mr. Nimoy had many talents besides wiggling his ears (:}} RIP .

I think he played in a movie about the Earp brothers in Tombstone. Deforest Kelly also played a role.

Amen. the first Star Trek was the best. Partially due to the newness of the genre on TV.

We viewers knew the stunts were hookey, but the plots and politics were so intriguing. Remember this was during the Vietnam non war that killed over 56000 Americans, many of my age. Fresh out of HS, fresh from listening to tales of American bravery in WWII, and too naive to doubt McMer. and company.

After all our government wouldn’t lie to us~~

I had a similar experience when my dad passed! Not nearly as detailed, but super neat. My sister reported the exact same experience although she lives 1000 miles away from me. We never mentioned it to one another until years afterward.

I like DS9. There was a lot of subtle humor. Another good series gone.

Not to make light of your experience in any way because I know it was a powerful and intense experience, I submit that it is yours alone.

I do believe in guardian angels and I am pretty certain that on at least two occasions in my life I have seen my own. I sure hope my loved ones that have gone before me aren't present for my sins. My sins have been forgiven by the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. Past, present and future. I'm not proud of mine, they are a cause of deep shame, but I'm granted justification in the eyes of the Lord due to Christ.

Frankly your viewpoint terrifies me. There are any number of explanations for your experience. I don't want to list them because I don't want to knock your experience. But the Holy Bible is very clear on such matters...

I’m so glad you and your sister has such an experience. My niece had a similar one as well after her Dad passed way. She was pregnant with her first child and was having complications. Her Dad appeared to her before she went into labor and told her that everything would be alright with her and the baby. And he was correct. I had another Visitation two years ago after my husband passed away. I felt guilt and anger that I somehow couldn’t save him, though I knew I had no control over the matter. He had two aneurysms in his body and I knew that eventually one of them would be the cause of his death. After he passed away. It gnawed at me as to which aneurysm caused his death..was it his abdominal aortic aneurysm or the aneurysm located between the bottom of his earlobe and the center of his neck, in his brain. For some reason, this information was important to me. His doctor had shown us exactly where the brain aneurysm was located on the xrays, so I was familiar with its location. One evening as I fell asleep, he appeared to me. I noticed that his hair was all sheared off, except for the stubble that could be seen on the top and sides of his head. I said to him, “who cut your hair, and “why did you let someone cut your hair that short?” He just looked at me, and then just like in a slide presentation, he next appeared to me again except his back was now facing me, from his head to his waist and I saw that his hair was shaved completely off of his head and the stubble was visible. Then I saw a large white circle on his neck, in the exact location where his brain aneurysm was located. And then I knew that he was trying to tell me by means of the shaving off of his hair and the large white circle on his neck that it was the brain aneurysm that had killed him. I thanked him out loud for letting me know, and I’ve not thought of it again, except to tell others of my experience, and I’m now at peace.

From what I read, my experience is not unique. Others have experienced the same, and hence they’re called Visitations, instead of dreams. What I’ve experienced never terrified me. On the contrary..it gave me peace.

She was in Star Trek 6 movie. She did, back then, resort to drugs and even prostitution. She’s still alive at 83 or so.

To all,
Leonard Nimoy was in a Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone episode this past weekend (Feb/Mar 2015).
In the TZ story, Nimoy was a US WWII soldier and had possibly 20-30 seconds of face time only that I saw, period!

As long as I am in TZ’s history, there is an Ohio town, WILLOUGHBY, that celebrates Twilight zone’s episode, “A stop at Willoughby”.

Rod Serling liked the name Willoughby, and worked it into the story (it was rumored that it that Serling was a somewhat frequent visitor to NE Ohio). It has been celebrated for several years and Rod’s daughter was the guest of honor a few years ago.
