The American Interest ^ | February 24, 2015

There are as many reasons to homeschool as there are reasons to distrust the public school system. According to The Hechinger Report, African-American families have started to embrace homeschooling and now make up 10 percent of the homeschooling population. Many teach their children at home to protect them from racism, and also, as one scholar says, schools’ lower standards for black students. More:

If they are home-schooled they may stray off the liberal plantation. Can’t have that. Otherwise the Democrats won’t have “...the n****** voting Democrat for the next 200 years”.

A couple more %age points, and there will be the same %age of black children being homeschooled as other races. This is a very good sign--not enough, mind you, but a good sign.

10 years ago I was irked by the HS people on FR as being somewhat snooty braggarts.

Now I wish I could apologize to them. Those people saved their kids lives in many ways by sparing them the child abuse of these disgusting institutions and the rotten perverts that call themselves teachers.

My heart goes out to the myriads of Black children that have to stay on the liberal plantation and be brainwashed in enablement and victimhood.

I don’t think JimRob has enough server space to actually list all the reasons it’s good to homeschool.

My wife and I...( Mainly my wife...) HS'd our two kids. K-12...in SoCal..and then here in OK.

It was easy to do...on the regulation front. Very few hoops to jump thru...

It was a sacrifice on the financial front..but worth it in the long run.

Both kids are successful professionals. Personally I think we made them almost too self-reliant..because once they were of age..they got jobs and left home. Worked hard..and went to college. They already had opinions and values...so they were pretty immune to college...B.S.

Seems like forever ago...now.

As a homeschool graduate, homeschool teacher, and someone who found my spouse on FR due to shared interest in homeschooling - this is such a great thing to hear. Good proof that our words aren't falling on deaf ears.

The thing about homeschoolers is that we don't care what your reason for homeschooling is, including if you want to teach your kid that white people are satanic oppressors. We're happy that you're taking a stand against the system, and reasonably hopeful your kid is learning more than she would have in public school. So this sort of story makes me cheer.

Apology accepted with love. You have to experience it to appreciate the cathartic wonder of it all.

I was bugged by the few homeschoolers I knew as well. Fast forward a decade and we are in our 7th year of homeschooling. It is, by far, the most challenging thing I have ever done; but I wouldn’t send them back to school for anything.

“10 years ago I was irked by the HS people on FR as being somewhat snooty braggarts.”

That is funny because about 10 years ago I met my wife on a FR homeschooling thread while we were being snotty braggarts about being homeschooled. Now we we are snooty braggarts about homeschooling our daughter :D
