House Speaker John Boehner isnt following his fellow Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnells cave-in yesterday on a Department of Homeland Security spending bill, and the distance between them is becoming more clear.
The Ohio Republican told colleagues he hadnt spoken to McConnell in two weeks, and while some lawmakers attempted to downplay the rift, the chasm between the two chambers is growing wider.
In November, people thought Harry Reid was going to be dethroned and the Senate was going to be controlled by Republicans. Im sad to say that hasnt happened, said Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ), a key conservative, underscoring the growing enmity between the House and Senate GOP.
Tuesday, McConnell said he would remove language from a DHS funding bill aimed at stopping President Obama from enacting the executive amnesty he announced in November. An unhappy GOP senator describes McConnells approach as a total victory for the Obama position.
But in addressing his House colleagues Wednesday morning, Boehner did not budge from the House position.
He said to keep yourselves very flexible for the weekend. It sounds to me like hes hunkering down. This was his strategy to begin with. He was the one who talked us out of fighting this fight during the cromnibus. So this is his strategy and Im glad hes showing some backbone on this, Salmon said.
Behind the standoff is the real sense that Boehners leadership could be on the line if he follows McConnells lead.
This is very, very delicate territory for our leadership, said Rep. John Fleming (R-LA).

Give BONEHEAD time. He’ll cave!
Delicate my ass.
Nut up you worthless non-representatives of the people or you’ll be in the same group as the democrat party when the torches and pitchforks come to retake the Constitution and the Republic.
They openly admit that illegal immigration is what the big donors want and not what the people want.
Tagline
He SHOULD stand tough and make the devious McConnell suspend the 60 vote closure requirement for THIS legislation and make closure require merely a simple majority vote.
Come on MCCONNELL...DO THE RIGHT THING!
That's gonna leave a mark.
That’s what i’ve been saying too.
WHen they whine, use language like 0bama did when he tried exec amnesty..
then, change it back and it will be left as when dems obstruct, we’ll go to 51. That was a good move by harry and we better damn well take advantage too.
i wonder why mitch’s leadership position is not in jeopardy.
Before frustrated posters start ranting about how bad the Republicans are, please pay attention to what’s really going on. It’s absolutely clear there’s a revolution brewing within the Republican Party. Notice that the Democrats are in complete and total lockstep. Our side is having a very serious internal battle.
If we voters get fed up and refuse to never, ever vote Republican again, that only helps ensure Democrats win. Now is definitely NOT the time to get pissed off and disengage. More than ever, we need to keep the pressure on and support the not inconsiderable number of Republicans who ARE fighting Obama.
If we were truly ruled by a uni-party as some claim, then we would not have the present chaos. I know people are frustrated, but “uni-party” claims are clearly wrong on the face of it. Again, a uni-party does not have these internal battles.
As much as we’re frustrated with the likes of McConnell, we have others like Sen. Jeff Sessions who are trying to help us. Instead of walking away from the political process in a huff, conservatives need to keep fighting to give Sen. Sessions more allies. Every RINO must be forced to defend their seat against challenges from the right, but never, ever—EVER—hand victory to the Democrats!
I should also add that so long as Boehner stands firm, we should support him. Why get pissed off if he hasn’t yet caved? He might, but maybe not. What’s more likely to help Boehner make the right decision, a bunch of people condemning him and saying they will never, ever vote Republican again, or people cheering him on whenever he does the right thing?
He said to keep yourselves very flexible for the weekend.
“I will VOTE AGAINST THEM, even if it’s a DemocRAT ! ! !”
That sums my point up exactly. Suicidal!
Sometimes the corruption is SO BAD that you have to tear it apart, BEFORE you can rebuild it!
Call your Senators and Congresscitters and tell them no to a clean bill. Ask Dems why are they willing to risk the security of America over people who are not even citizens. Tell Repubs that if there is a clean bill passed, the court case ruling by the 26 sttes will become moot, as the judges will say that is was the expressed will of Congress to fund the the executive action.
No sense complaining in the echo chamber herewe need to make our voices heardyes, even to Democrats.
I have made my callshow about you?
This is it-the whole ballgame.
Between controlling the demographics and the internet, America will be in a Communist vise it will not recover from.
So you’re saying you’ll vote for guaranteed destruction (Democrats!) over trying to reform the Republican Party. You want to tear it down in order to make it better, right? What makes you think something better is going to come out of THAT? History proves you wrong, BTW. If our government collapses, we are far, far more likely to get something much worse, like a true dictatorship (arguments that Obama is a dictator notwithstanding).
I can’t believe it! Go Boehner!
