It seemed like a typical congressional meeting for the Republic of Texas. Senators and the president gathered in the center of a Bryan, Texas, meeting hall, surrounded by public onlookers, to debate issues of the national currency, develop international relations and celebrate the birthday of one of their oldest members.
But this wasn't 1836, and this would be no ordinary legislative conference. Minutes into the meeting a man among the onlookers stood and moved to open the hall door, letting in an armed and armored force of the Bryan Police Department, the Brazos County Sheriff's Office, the Kerr County Sheriff's Office, Agents of the Texas District Attorney, the Texas Rangers and the FBI.
In the end, at least 20 officers corralled, searched and fingerprinted all 60 meeting attendees, before seizing all cellphones and recording equipment in a Valentine's Day 2015 raid on the Texas separatist group....

Do they issue enforceable supeonas? I thought that was “civil” cases. (not that they are acceptable either. But from a legal aspect, I bet they would fall under mediation.)

In Texas's case, they have literally been there and done that. Didn't turn out very well for them.
The Texas Rangers killed a couple of the Republic Of Texas kooks back in '97, during the armed standoff, when Bush was gov. Bush refused to let federal agents be involved because of Waco.
Back then ROT created all kinds of problems in Texas.
There is a freeper who is ROT, goes here by the name Republic of Texas, but hasn't posted here in a long time. He always said there were good ROTs and bad ROTs

Maybe, but mainly the push to be diverse and rid themselves of the old boy club, which consisted of mainly real men. Up until the mid-late 80’s most of the Rangers actually had horses and/or rode and were rough outdoor types which helped foster their image, now I doubt more than a handful have ever sat in a saddle.
Couple that with the growth in most cities and counties, that used to rely on Ranger assistance or lead in criminal investigations, now having their own labs and larger and better trained detective forces.
Yes, those in Texas must abide by all laws, rules and regulations. Like the honorable in government do.
