Top Democrats said Feb. 23 they will hold the homeland security budget hostage until the GOPs House caucus agrees to quit its popular anti-amnesty efforts.
If we are going to avoid a government shutdown on the Department of Homeland Security, we need a commitment from Speaker Boehner that we have a bipartisan, bicameral approval to end this deadlock, Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin told reporters during a Tuesday press conference in the Senate.
Durbin spoke shortly after the Senates GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell appeared to submit to the Democrats demands that the DHS 2015 budget not curb spending on the presidents November amnesty.
Democrats have filibustered the House-passed DHS budget bill four times just to block the anti-amnesty language.
McConnell agreed Feb. 22 to allow separate votes on a toothless DHS budget bill, and a bill that would curb Obamas amnesty plans.

Washington D.C.'s ONE PARTY system continues their performance of Kabuki theater.(Japanese version of song & dance.)
And Ajax won't take it off. Sucks to be Boner right about now; at least he can go have a drink.
GOP wields more power when it is the minority party, than when it is the majority party. Put them in charge, and they spend like drunken sailors.
I agree. Stop working so hard. Give more to charity. Stop spending. Give nothing to national Republican organizations.
If you have the full force of propaganda in your hip pocket, it really doesn’t matter what you do, you will get away with it. In fact, it’s advantageous when things go awry because you just blame the other guy.
Tax revolts worked in the 30s, mainly on property taxes. Not many know that.
It would be very hard with income tax withholding. You’d have to claim 50 allowances. Then the government would disallow more than one or two so everybody that pays taxes gets a refund.
I blame all of this on the gutless McConnell.
(Why we are screwed)
Interpreted as:
We will compromise and undermine America’s national security with executive amnesty or by shutting down DHS, so you guys are dead either way. Choose your poison.
They don’t wield any power then either.
The GOP is utterly worthless in every respect and at all times.
Exactly! Throw out the entire GOPe. It is far past time to take this thing all the way back to bare metal and start over. New party perhaps, or at least a RINOless GOP. Vote out every “moderate”, squishy, and cowardly Republican. If not in the primary, then in the general.
This whole “landslide” in 2014 was just a big fraud.
“Demonrat minority in senate seems to wield more power than the Republican minority ever could muster.”
Demonrat minority in senate seems to wield more power than the Republican MAJORITY ever could muster.
As Hitlery famously said, “what difference does it make”
Shut Amerika, the uniparty has spoken.
Boehner, do not surrender.
We want DHS to go unfunded and amnesty to die.
Too bad this feckless gaggle of GOPers just can’t seem to get a handle on strategic messaging. This is a golden opportunity to address this widely and loudly to voters and they just... sit... on...their... hands.
Obama’s Lawless Amerika 2015:
The liberal media cheering democrats on as they threaten to shut the Department Of Homeland Security down unless republicans assist them in breaking more laws and keeping the borders open to the flood of illegals pouring in to get Obama’s amnesty.
It’s Boehner’s fault ,he should have addressed this before Xmas break ,but no he just kicked it down the road
Priceless.
Its all too clear that boehner and mcconnell have - and never had - any intention of blocking or fighting obama/democrats on immigration, obamacare, or anything else.
This washington dog and pony show has gone too far.
2014 was probably the GOP’s, and America’s last chance to twart the tyranny that hovers near total takeover by undesirables.
It almost guarantees either Hillary in 2016, or an “extended tour” of obama. After this party treason no one is going to trust them anymore. Then, if we stick a dishrag like Bush, Christie, or even Walker up there, most all will just stay home on election day.
America is no longer the “melting pot”, the pot itself is melting.
I blame him as well but there is more blame to lay.. I blame the people that put him in the position he is in as well. Everyone knows the house and senate GOPe leadership well enough to know this was going to happen. And the rank and file allowed it to happen anyways.
I’m not saying.... The black market and underground economy is growing by leaps and bounds...
I’m just saying..
