Jurors deliberated just 2 1/2 hours before finding that former Marine Cpl. Eddie Ray Routh was guilty of capital murder for the shooting deaths of former Navy SEAL and American Sniper author Chris Kyle and his best friend, Chad Littlefield.
Routh, 27, of Lancaster was immediately sentenced to life in prison without parole by state District Judge Jason Cashon as Rouths stunned parents sat holding hands in the courtroom. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.

His entire life will not be long either.
His life from this point on will be as empty and as thankless as Sirhan Sirhan. My sympathy first goes, of course to Kyle’s family, but after that I feel bad for this Eddie Ray Routh’s mother, who was only trying to find help for her adult son.
I do not feel bad for this Eddie’s Uncle, who smoked weed and drank alcohol with him shortly before the killings. Why? This Uncle must have known how sick to the point of being delusional the young man was, plus he may have known that Routh was going to a shooting range soon after. Three people in that one family showed tragically poor judgement on the same day. If my conclusions are wrong, I am sorry, but I believe my presumptions are correct.
My only wish is that this will give some comfort and resolution to the families of these two good men. It is unfortunate that the taxpayers will have to pay to keep the murderer alive for decades to come.
something tells me this will not be an issue
Some justice in a sordid affair.
He will now face jail house justice! It is harsher than legal justice. Anyone who kills him will be a hero to former military convicts. His end will be painful indeed.
Rouths Mommy smoked dope and drank with him too.
She also failed to tell kyle that Routha was institutionalized 6 times and that he had taken family members hostage under threat of death.
Which is why the only way for him to survive is to spend the rest of his entire life in solitary confinement.
I agree. I no longer believe in capital punishment. We all die and many good people die horribly. Execution is too quick nowadays. As I often state, I hope I go out as easily as those from lethal injection. They're put to sleep and then administer the lethal drugs, like we do with our loyal dogs.
I would rather see these scum spend the rest of their lives in a box, although that has become to easy also with all their privileges. Make them break big rocks into little rocks and feed them enough gruel to keep them alive and suffer. Chain gangs are my preference. Yes, I'm vengeful. Got problem?
The death penalty is for the victims family and friends to have closure. It also is closure for the community at large. Life in prison for the murderer is cruel joke on the family members/fiends and the community.
Same here. He will not last too long prison, give it a year or two.
The big question I have would be, forgive me if sounds stupid, but will this killer face “jailhouse” justice?
Thank-you for your responses.
Michael Savage posted an interview he had with Chris in 2011, shortly after his book, “American Sniper” was released. It is posted on his website. Great interview with Chris and probably one of the few available.
So often those who don’t understand use the term “Ex-Marine.” They have only been right in a very few instances. Clayton Lonetree Bobby Garwood John “surrender” Murtha were “Ex Marines” now this mutt has joined them as an “Ex-Marine.”
I’m just surprised jury deliberations took so long...
