Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday said the Senate may vote very quickly on a clean Department of Homeland Security funding bill.
Days before a shutdown of the critical agency, McConnell said he would be happy" to pass a clean DHS funding bill before the Senate considers a narrow measure overturning President Obamas most recent executive actions on immigration.
McConnell noted the Senate is scheduled to vote Friday on legislation he introduced this week to reverse President Obama's 2014 executive order shielding up to 5 million illegal immigrants from deportation.
If that vote goes forward, it could be followed by a vote on legislation funding the Homeland Security agency.
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) said Tuesday he would not greenlight McConnell's plan until he hears from Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) that it can pass the House.
Reid insisted Democrats would make every attempt to block a vote on Obama's 2014 executive order until they get a vote on a clean DHS funding bill.
McConnell had previously agreed to drop language that also sought to overturn Obamas 2012 executive actions on immigration. That language was included in a bill that approved the House.
Some congressional insiders predicted both chambers would have to pass a short-term stopgap but McConnell's plan, if successful, would avoid that scenario.
What does that mean "if the vote goes forward?"
What if Democrats filibuster and it fails cloture? Will he still bring the DHS spending bill to the floor?

Has "commander zero" actually signed an EO regarding this amnesty?
He has just showed, again, that he has no regard for American workers. Vetoed Keystone. Killing thousands of high-paying jobs. Sure it's only for a couple years but, if a man has not worked for the last six years, $100,000.00 in a matter of two years is a LOT of money. How is that not in "the National Interest?".
Introduce a clean bill, now just wow, what a great idea. Just wondering why it took so long?

“Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) said Tuesday he would not greenlight McConnell’s plan until he hears from Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) that it can pass the House.”
How can he do that?? The Republicans now control the Senate. Could the Republicans exert that much power when they were the minority??
