The US TV broadcast of this year's Oscars ceremony on Sunday scored the event's lowest ratings in six years, averaging 36.6 million.
They were down by 16% on last year's ratings, according to Nielsen figures published by Variety.
First-time host Neil Patrick Harris received lukewarm reviews, while some have blamed the drop on a lack of nominations for films with mass appeal.

Everybody knew that it would be the usual leftist pukefest, and that “American Sniper” would be shut out.
Neil should stick to the Tony Awards, that crowd loves to see him in his undies.
Bingo!
I’d rather watch the grass grow than the Oscar ceremony...Where else can you get more bleeding heart liberals per square inch in one room?...GAAK!
Oscar Ceremony Hires Homosexual To Officiate, Sinks To New Low!
Not low enough.
Who is Oscar? Is this the grouch??
Not a surprise. Horrid movies were nominated. Only Whiplash and American Sniper were decent movies. The rest were garbage especially Boyhood which I sat in misery for 3 hours.....I did see Gone Girl and would have nominated that film which was incredible and actually good.
I’m sick of Hollywood
Don’t watch the Oscars and don’t watch movies as much as I used to because I can’t stand watching the big mouth jerks who constant spout contempt for America.
I don’t think I am the only one
Who wants to see NPH in his undies other than the gay crowd? And be lectured to by the winners (whiners)?
How bad was Boyhood?
Imitation Game was very good.

American Sniper didn’t do itself any favors to be honest. First of all it was put out on December 25 and didn’t get wide release until January 4th(ish). The Academy Award ballots went out the Friday after Thanksgiving so most voters didn’t see it unless they had a directors copy or whatever they send so I think the movie screwed itself more so then the Oscars. However, I would rather be the number one movie of 2014 then get an Oscar. I know it is not number 1....yet but it is 30 million away from getting it.
to its knees
Who is Oscar and why is he having a ceremony?
I’ll take your word for all of that. I haven’t been interested in the media/entertainment complex for decades, and haven’t watched their love-ins for that long. Although I’m always happy to see them take a hit :D
