National security officials have been notified that an underground tunnel was discovered near a venue for this summer's Pan Am Games in Toronto, CBC News has learned.
The tunnel was dug in the woods near Toronto's Rexall Centre and York University's Keele campus. It was large enough for a person to stand in, at around 2½ metres in height, and was about seven metres long. The tunnel had lights inside, powered by a generator, and the walls and ceiling were reinforced.
Sources told CBC News that the tunnel was filled in by authorities.

The generator probably has a serial number on it, that can be tracked to the point of sale.

Unless they had the exhaust piped outside, operating a small gasoline engine in a confined space in itself might have resolved the incident. About the only thing they could do to produce more carbon monoxide would be to fire up a charcoal grill in there.

From the article: “It likely took weeks if not longer to dig, and the earth excavated from the tunnel appears to have been removed from the site to help avoid detection.”

Interesting!! - well, back in the good ol’ days that would never be publicized. The place would be under surveillance awaiting the perp return to finish their work and do whatever they have in mind. The other problem is that by publicizing there are always those lame brains who become copy cats, in one way or another.

That jumped out at me and turned the incident from suspicious to nefarious. The picture reminded me of the Gaza tunnels.

the place was a well insulated grow lab.
no FLIR helicopters looking for the color of heat from halogen grow lights. weed
what better to stay off the grid by using a generator combustion engine which everybody uses in the winter and summer to sno-blow and cut a lawn.
Kids probably opened an LLC and deducted the fuel cost

How much further did they have to go, till they reached the venue for the games?

There was no evidence of that and there are far cheaper and easier methods to fool FLIR.

Sources told CBC News that the tunnel was filled in by authorities.Well, that's one way to get rid of 'em!
I've got a few superfluous 'authorities' 'round here if they need any more to fill that hole.

What group has long history of both terms both of terror attacks as well as the digging of extensive and elaborate covert networks of reinforced tunnels to facilitate those terror attacks.
Hmm....... gotta think about that one. Starts with an H
HAMAS?
Hezbollah ?
Actually both of them qualify on both points

There's a comment by a typical America-bashing Canadian liberal in the comment section of that article - basically stating that Canada is only at risk because they got dragged into fighting in the Middle East as proxies of the US and Israel. It is absolute head-in-the-sand stupidity. This is extremely offensive, and amazingly naive. Do they really think that sitting back while country after country gets overrun by fanatics is going to spare them? Really? Whatever this person paid for their education, whether in Canadian taxes or tuition, they clearly didn't get their monies worth.

I agree. I knew that when I left Saudi Arabia in 1985. I would talk to people about the threat of Wahhabism. They were clueless while SA was building mosques all over the US. Here we are now, living under a mudslime occupation and coup with a complicit media.
It all becomes understandable when you realize that progressivism is no different than Wahhabism. The philosophy and authoritarianism is all the same. The moral code is based on the end justifies the means.
In other words, there are no moral codes. This is a human cancer.
