Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is not a fan of his Democratic colleagues' "disturbing" unwillingness to criticize President Barack Obama's executive actions that protected undocumented immigrants from deportation.
"It's very interesting. Democratic senators privately will admit all sorts of things," Cruz mused during a Newsmax TV interview published Monday. "But it's really disturbing: Democratic senators have been unwilling to stand up to this president, really on almost anything."
Cruz, a likely 2016 presidential contender, compared this alleged slavishness to Obama to how Republicans reacted when one of their own, former President Richard Nixon, was in the middle of the 1972 Watergate scandal.
"We've had presents in the past who have abused power. But when that has happened: When Richard Nixon abused power, Republican senators stood up to him and said, 'Mr. President, you've gone too far.' In fact, it was Republican senators who went to the Oval Office, and said, 'Mr. President, it's time for you to resign,'" Cruz recalled. "What is strikingly missing are Democratic senators who have more commitment to the Constitution and rule of law than they do to their party."
Newsmax anchor John Bachman pointed out to Cruz that Democratic senators today would likely say Obama's controversies are not on the same scale as Watergate...

Nixon had the decency to resign.
Comparing Obama to Nixon is going to make the Left’s heads explode. Love it.
Obama is a million times worse than Nixon ever was.
” Watergate was a Sunday School picnic compared to the least of Mr. Obama’s crimes”
Obama is the Robert Mugabe of American politics.
Mugabe just called and demanded an apology.
Of course Obola’s abuse of power is not of the same scale as Nixon. No one is saying or claiming that. Obola’s abuse is 100x worse. In addition, no one has ever said Nixon did not love America either.
LOL!!
Yes, and Obama has no decency.
Cruz really just lit a match under the remaining rat senators. They've watched as their little fiefdoms have been taken away one by one as those who stood with the bamster were removed, and they likely know that unless they step carefully they may have more chance of being removed by the entire vote and their base can no longer save most of them.
Gotta love Cruz, thinking big, moving the debate, so smart with these comments.
Not fair to Nixon.
As much as I like Ted Cruz...
If I were Nixon, I’d claw my way out of the grave, zombie shamble my way to wherever Ted is, and slap him for that insult.
Nixon wasn’t insane or a tyrant or dictator, and I believe he truly loved our country.
Adolf Hitler & Obama - now there’s a similarity.
It's a shame for him and those that survived him that he has to be precedent, the most convenient comparison, to an AH like 0.
Nixon loved America.
Also, Nixon loved his country.
Not exactly the same as Barry "Choom Gang" Soetoro ...
But the headline is false. Ted Cruz didn't compare Soetoro to Nixon. He compared the demonicrat senators' behavior now to that of Republican Senators in the early 1970s. The demonicrats come off poorly in the comparison.
Ted Cruz is very disappointing. That is insulting to Richard Nixon. I’d compare Obama to Caligula.
Yeah, if you want the reference to go over the heads of 99% of the public, including almost everyone in the executive mansion.
“When Richard Nixon abused power, Republican senators stood up to him and said, ‘Mr. President, you’ve gone too far.’”
And the Republicans were slaughtered in the next election in 1974. The electorate punished them for dealing honestly with a bad president.
Fast forward to 1998. The Democrats protect to their death the far-worse perjuring Clinton, of whom even Sen. Moynihan said early on, if he had sex with Ms. Lewinsky, he’d have to resign. The Dems rallied round this evil man, down to the last Dem, even Sen. Moynihan refusing to break ranks in the end.
And what happened? The electorate rewarded the scum with electoral victory in 1998.
What’s the lesson? Stand by your prez, no matter how evil he is, or the electorate will punish you.
and he's setting up the GOPE leadership to look even more pathetic if they fail to stand up to the failed president.
