In the 1960s, negative television coverage helped turn American public opinion against the war, the veterans and even the Vietnamese who fought to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam.
Actress Jane Fonda, who called U.S. troops murderers, was famously shown sitting on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gunner used to shoot at American planes.
By 1971, John Kerry, a Vietnam veteran and now secretary of state, declared on national TV, We wish that a merciful God could wipe away our own memories of that service.
But is what Americans saw on television and in the movies an accurate portrayal of those warriors and their mission to halt the spread of communism?

I went to our local VFW to play Bingo yesterday. My first time there. I am happy to announce that in the urinals they have placed the “official Hanoi Jane urinal stickers” that I happily aimed and hit center mass.
Add Cronkite to those slime balls as well.
I hope that anti-American SOB cronkite is burning in Hades.
The number of US soldiers who died as a result of his broadcasts is countless!
We would/could have won, if not for him.
’ Undermine the war at home and turn the public against the war and in a lot of places the service men and women. ‘
The left saw the error of their ways with their treatment of the service men and women and changed their tune.
But we need to stop their undermining military actions. I’ll never forget Harry Reid saying, “The Iraq war is lost” in 2007.
The politicians lost that one for us...but the politicians were not the ones who took the heat for the loss.
That’s a good reason to drink beer.
Well, that and having our hands tied by abusrdly restrictive ROE. Is/are the ROE’s even worse now in A-stan? If you’re not going in with total victory in mind, don’t waste our youngsters lives. Now it seems that if some civilian gets a john f’n kohn-heinz-kerry type splinter wound, the other “civilized” countries jump all over it and threaten war crimes charges. Guess what. War ain’t pretty and bad stuff happens.
I think the first positive thing I ever saw on TV about those serving in Viet Nam was a TV show called Magnum P.I.
“when you consider that being pro American was not exactly in vogue. “ Seems like in a lot of circles in 2015 it isn’t exactly in vogue either. :>}
I hope people realize that the LEFT’s war against our military has been going on for years and years.
And .. the Oscars prove my point. The highest grossing movie for quite a long time is pushed aside as a non-entity.
Movie goers .. I hope you realize the HOLLYWOOD-ITES just spit in your face.
I haven’t been to the movies in quite a few years. Why should I spend my dollars to support spoiled rotten, grossly overpaid people who do nothing but write, direct, and star in productions specifically to lie and hide the truth.
When a real movie comes along, “American Sniper”, they make sure it does not get rewarded.
But .. the left has gotten away with far too many attacks upon America .. when are we going to shut our purses to these “radical” people ..??
My big problem with Vietnam was LBJ and not fighting the war to win it.
Dad fought as a Marine in the Pacific between 42 and 45. My uncle fought in the USAAF out of England at the same time. The end game was to beat the enemy, no (well few) holds barred until the enemy were dead or begged for peace. Now we didn’t do this in Korea or Vietnam and unfortunately we didn’t do it in the sand box either. We had the power but we didn’t have the intestinal fortitude.
Until we get back that fortitude, we will remain in this malaise.
Hmmm. Wasn’t Thomas a Seal team/frogman leader or something? Dang, that’s a long time ago. Still love the Ferrari. :>}
Spot on! We never lost an engagement to the commies up north.
When lbj is approving bombing targets you know it's not going to end up well.
I'd have to disagree for two reasons:
First, the conduct of operations pretty much ensured there would be no clear victory. Without full commitment to target and invade the North, the best result would have been like the Korean conflict.
Secondly, the Vietnamese were reluctant to do what was necessary to defend themselves from communist takeover. When the locals don't unite and defend their own liberty, the eventual outcome is never good. We're seeing it again in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Excellent article.
IMO, kerry, fonda, cronkite, and the rest are still guilty of treason.
I read that Mrs. Kyle did an outstanding job at the oscars (night of slime as I see it) but I still don’t (well I really do) get why folks like her associate with the h’wood scumbags. I guess the money speaks. Hopefully jesse ventura won’t be able to get his hands on it.
