Chicago really doesn't need a presidential temple of worship masquerading as a presidential library, or a fancy downtown college basketball palace, or a Star Wars museum on the lakefront.
And downtown doesn't need a big casino, either, not even a glitzy one with monstrous video billboards depicting the giant, pitiless eyes of the mayor staring down at those from the neighborhoods who dared to look up.
Downtown has been getting quite a bit of attention, and though it might be nice to have all these things, (or not) they aren't vital to the future of Chicago.
But there is one thing that is necessary. Think of it as a gift, one that can be given to Chicago on Tuesday, Election Day, Feb. 24.

Too many of Holder’s people there. Emanuel will once again be their “prince”.
Site won’t let me read the article without subscribing.
But assuming a republican is running against him I predict he will get 70-80% of the vote.
If you google the title of this post then click on the link from google, you get in passed the paywall.
Thanks.
Alas, the free stuff crowd and unions dominate in Chicago. And if they fail, there’s always voter fraud.
The machines are already programmed to elect Rahm by more than 100%, I’ll wager.
LET'S STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE Rahm Emanuel is poor street urchin, who, w/ just 10 cents in his pocket, "accidentally" got into big-time Chicago politics ---miraculously Rahm then became a multi-millionaire overnight.
The Chicago mayoralty (and its--cough--"benefits") is a job poor Emanuel has coveted since he was a penniless Democrat machine go-fer back in the 1980s.....before he became Bill Clinton's national campaign finance chairman and served a dual role as (1) Clinton's senior White House aide, AND, (2) a Goldman Sachs lobbyist.
After Rahm "accidentally" became a multi-millionaire, thanks to a measly few months at a Wall Street investment firm......he decided to run for Congress (was there for four terms).
Hard-scrabble Rahm's accidental stumble into politics culminated in Rahm picked as (1) Obama's White House chief of staff .... and a dual role as (2) Obama's hand-picked man at Treasury with an unarticulated "job description."
Later, when he left the WH--penniless, of course---Rahm held a presser declaring he "just remembered" he really, Really wanted to be Mayor of Chicago.
Then Rahm happily announced he had "accidentally" raised $10 million for his campaign "in just a matter of weeks." Seems the poverty-stricken bugger had "accidentally wired" federal tax dollars offshore at the time he was in a dual role as Obama's COS AND in charge of the entire US Treasury.
Sob.
Isn’t this the guy’s brother “Dr. Death”?
Rahm Emmanuel as mayor represents the corrupt commie based single Party politics that permeates most big cities. They hand out a few token benefits to the poor just to get elected, while using patronage and giving crony deals worth billions to connected friends.
One Party government always equals corruption. Two corrupt Parties still equals corruption but on a lesser scale as they will both attempt to expose each other.
EDITED EXCERPT .... an exciting time in the inbred world of Chicago Democratic politics.... Democratic don, Richard M. Daley ruled for 22 years, inheriting the mayoralty from his father, Mayor Richard J. Daley who held on for a generation. Now the ex-chief of staff of Chicagoan Barack Obama (once a state Senator, now president) was installed. US Treasury Secy Tim Geithner was there, and so was Chicagoan David Axelrod, an O team player.
BTW, Mayor Daley's former chief of staff, Valerie Jarrett, hired Obama's ten-fiancé, Michelle, to work in Chicago City Hall. Jarret is now ensconced as Obama's chief policy advisor. In Chicago gangland parlance, Valerie's WH title "chief policy advisor" means "wire-transfer artist".
Mayor Emanuel's innovative ways commenced early on---his organization was getting $50G's for the best seats at the inauguration (mmmm........that accounts for another couple million scammed from Treasury).
The mayoralty (and its--cough--"benefits") is a job Emanuel has coveted since he was a machine go-fer back in the 1980s.....before he became Bill Clinton's national campaign finance chairman and then a dual role as senior White House aide and Goldman Sachs lobbyist and then (gasp) becoming a multi-millionaire, thanks to a measly few months at a local investment firm...then a (gag) Congressman for four terms---then White House chief of staff for Obama that helped create the 2010 Republican House landslide.

And let's not forget Rahmbo's brothers: Dr Zeke---the lamebrain behind the Obamacare monster. And this bro---the reason why Rahbo got a reality show...his bigshot Hollywood brother, Ari, described as the pre-eminent power player in Hollywood.
Here they are on the cover of their memoirs.
Ari on the left is a Hollyweird bigwig.
I think Mayor Rah is standing on a box (to look taller).
Dont bother to buy the book---it's all about their greatness.
How they came from (gag) nothing to become power players.

CHICAGO In Washington, he is Rahmbo, the ruthless, profane operative who survived the Clinton White House despite being vanquished by the first lady. In Chicago, Rahm Emanuel has been dubbed the murder mayor by one critic, a snipe at the citys high homicide rate.
In Washington, hes the campaign mastermind who reportedly mused about a 2016 presidential run if Hillary Clinton takes a pass. In Chicago, hes the ham-fisted gentrifer whos been tripped up by the citys entrenched racial politics.
In Washington, hes the star of the CNN series Chicagoland a careful keeper of his image whose office helped coordinate the show. In the real Chicago, a city known for its mobster history, his tough-guy veneer just isnt as intimidating.(Excerpt) Read more at politico.com ...
Old man Daley died in ‘76.
Richie didn’t “inherit” the position until ‘89.
A lot of political infighting at that time.
Though Daley might have had a lot of pull. It wasn’t exactly an “inherited” position by then.
Behold, power isn't allocated from the voting booth anymore. Does anyone need proof? Republicans took the last election -- in a "landslide", they say. Where is the Republican revolution in Congress?
Council wars! ... The greatest show on earth, ever!
Fast Eddie vs. 'This ain't bean bag' Harold!
Can anyone explain to me why Chicago is having an election in the middle of winter? It’s not a special election I presume if the current mayor is on the ballot.
No it will be 125% of the vote. You didn't count the cemeteries.
I used to live in Chicago.
This is a regularly scheduled election. This is the primary election. A runoff, if needed, will be held in early April.
They have the local elections in February and April of odd numbered years, so as not to have local election campaigns get tossed in with national or state elections.
Thanks for your reply but it still seems a bit wacky to me. Jersey city has an odd ball election schedule too if I recall correctly. I think they are in June and they might be non-partisan as I’m not remembering a primary. It’s a one party town anyway except for our buddy Brett Schundler.
The cold weather helps the “machine”, get out the vote.
(if you get my meaning)
Do all Chicago Mayors end up in Jail ? LOL
