OTAY MESA An FBI agent's handgun discharged into his leg Thursday morning during training at a firearms training center in Otay Mesa, a federal official said.
The shooting happened at the San Diego Regional Firearms Training Center on Alta Road about 10 a.m., FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth said. Investigators are trying to determine if the agent accidentally shot himself or if the gun malfunctioned.

Our range won't allow holster practice for this reason. Someone needs to design a holster where the side opens upon withdrawal and requires to user to close the flap after re-insertion.
“the Walther is a way better piece that the Glock.”
Well, there is absolutely no comparison between the two for a good trigger. The Walther wins hands down, The Glock is also crudely made by comparison to the Walther. The only piece I like better than the PPQ is my Sig 229, but then it cost almost double the Walther.
I knew it had to be a Glock! Most favored handgun for redlegs everywhere!

I resemble that remark!
I’ve got a lot of range time, and I am confident in my skills, but I do not carry a pistol on my person. I carry a knife and pepper spray, but that’s it.
My guns are for home defense and car defense. My .44 revolver does stay loaded and ready, but it’s too big for the car. The auto pistol is for the car, but yeah I do not leave one chambered. I just have a fear of that, I hope it doesn’t ever cost me.
Didn’t someone catch a world record bass in a lake there? I seem to recall catching a trout in a pay lake in Otay Mesa, but this was many, many moons ago.
Dunno but the fishing was good.
The Beretta Tomcat .32 is a good choice for a woman. My daughter has mine now. The barrel flips up for loading. Punch of a .38 mebbe, as a ‘bad breath gun’ using Winchester silvertips.
Double action, then single action and a side safety. The Walther .380 slide and others can be hard to rack if you don’t have gorilla-like hand strength, like most of us.
Nothing unsafe about a Glock or any handgun if you use ‘Israeli carry’ and practice it.
That reminds me—I hope Netanyahu butters Bozo’s necktie in his speech before Congress. And who’s been feeding Boehner Viagra pills? Inviting the Israeli, telling the Democrats the DHS may go begging. Hmmm.
how can there be 107 comments on a thread that mentions Otay without a picture of Eddie Murphy as Buckwheat?
Some family. Your identity is wrapped in the name of a gun manufacturer. How pathetic.
Everything u said is a mystery to me... ‘cept I hope Bibi gets the best of ‘O’... thank you, for sharing!

Spending time and money modifying the trigger on a 300 dollar gun seems silly to me. Why not buy one with a trigger you like, along with safety features?
I did just that when I picked up a Sig Sauer P238 last year.
What he said is true. Buy a guy you like and trust and carry it in Condition 3 before moving up. Condition 3 means the gun has a full magazine but is not chambered but could be at a moments notice.
Rule # 1 - the gun is ALWAYS loaded; treat it that way.
Rule #2 - If the gun is not loaded, refer to Rule #1.
My Dad used a foot to my butt 52 years ago to demonstrate how important nit was to obey the rules - haven't had an accident or shot anything I didn't intend to shoot in all that time.
Get training from someone to become familiar with the weapon and practice until you are comfortable with it. Review Rules # 1 & 2 often.
PS: My wife also carries and she follows the rules - 65 years old and no "accidental" shootings.
In rural areas such as where I live, it is of course, different. Many LEOs grew up hunting and shooting. Therefore, many are knowledgeable in all firearms.
In reviewing Chavez v. GLOCK an expert witness testified that accidental discharges had increased in some PDs after switching to Glock pistols. Commonly referred to as “Glock Leg.”
“Wouldnt that be dufi ?”
Good point. I can’t find it in my Strunk and White.
The U.S. military HAD ‘flap holsters’. They were great for ‘protecting’ the firearm, but lousy when you had to pull the gun from the holster, in a hurry.
Sad to say, but I do think that gun guru Clint Smith said it best. If your gun is not on the target, keep your booger finger off the trigger!!
I HAD all i want with anything semi-auto in rifles, when i walked out of the base gate in the ‘80’s.
My beloved across the river spoke the need to have my lever action rifle, so she got it.
I have a Belgian Browning HP, and a newer MkIII. That’s more than enough semi-auto’s for me.
However, I keep them in the hangar. My utility pieces are all .38 Specials, and no ‘plus p’ ammunition. Never saw the need for it, when solid wadcutters, or solid semi-wadcutters - no hp, no RNL, have worked for so many years.
I owned several glocks. Mine had stovepipe issues—all of them. To each his own for sure, but I’ll never own one again.
