From Johnny earlier today:
"Time to fess up.
Turns out I have brain cancer that moved there from my lungs. Prognosis is poor. I had brain surgery a couple of weeks ago.
Of course, being me, I intend to fight hard to the very end, and beat the odds. I may well be around for harvest season this year. That is my intent. Normal prognosis is in weeks.
I've held off on bringing this up on FR for several reasons. But the time to bring it up is now.
Consider this my opus. It's as close as I'm going to get to giving one.
I really want to thank Jim for giving us a forum. Jim, you do good work. Thanks."

In my youth I was a Mess Sgt. We cooks have got to stick together. We feed and nurture our community as they feed and nurture our souls and outlook.
Each day we have is a blessing.
Hang in there, buddy. :(

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Prayers up Johnny.
Prayers for Johnny, his daughter and grandkids.
Kneemail sent. You will beat this brotherman. Besides, we have to go hog hunting like we promised! Love you.
JUST a cook? There is no talent I appreciate more than a good cook. And you grow your own food to boot.
Johnny,
You are in my prayers, brother.
...joining this prayer throng, amigo!
Very sorry about your situation. I hope that you are getting the best medical care available. Praying for a full and miraculous recovery.
Asking our Lord to surround you with the brilliant light of HIS love and healing, I shall keep you in my daily prayers and look forward to reading of your recovery.
And here I thought that was from Rodney Dangerfield!
Johnny, I had been wondering the passed few months why you were commenting less and less. I am saddened to hear this. Give it your best fight! We are all praying for you and God’s wisdom in resolving this!!
God Bless you!!
I would advise JRF that to yield to God is to learn to have a character through which God flows. Our human philosophizing (and JRF had a whole lot of that) grandly fails there. It should be surprising if it did not grandly fail.
I do not believe any tragedy occurs without a context. God is still on His throne. We can learn lessons in yielding to God in tragedy or we can hotly rebel. It’s up to us.
I seem to remember an old post of yours where you make the statement that if they were to drop you in the middle of nowhere naked with a knife, you would prosper. Here’s to praying that perseverance continues.
Prayers continuing for you, my brother.
We need you here...for your wisdom, and your friendship. Lord, make that boy right....keep and heal our Johnny.
Besides....we still need to give Cornyn the boot ;-)
May God bless and keep you and your family Johnny.
Dearest, awesome you, Johnny,
I’ve already written to you on another thread (Weekly Garden) but just in case you’re only able to read this one, please know you have my faithful prayers and that I won’t forget!
I believe in miracles, so don’t give up!
If it’s your turn for an earthly “good-bye” then you, and we all know a huge “heavenly hello and welcome home” awaits you.
God bless and keep you, dearest Johnny.
XOXOXO
And assign someone to the Boot Cornyn thread and ping list.

Oh my goodness.
Please, God, have mercy upon this man and give him strength to fight this battle through to remission.
