MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says recent video of a cougar is the 28th confirmed sighting in the Upper Peninsula since 2008.
The DNR posted a 60 second video Feb. 19 of the cat feeding on a deer carcass in Mackinac County. Two hunters from Remus used a trail camera to capture video of the male cougar repeatedly returning to the deer kill site to eat.
The DNR says cougars were originally native to Michigan, but were driven out of the state around 1900. The last known cougar taken in the wild occurred in 1906 near Newberry.
There were periodic reports of cougar sightings in the past century and since 2008, numerous cougar sighting reports from various locations in Michigan. The DNR says the resurgence of wild cougars is not unique to Michigan, but has been occurring in many other states in the Midwest and east.
You can submit cougar sighting reported to the DNR online.

We need those where I live, way too many deer here.

30 cougars? Get ready for pets to start going missing.
Any walk in the park needs a fellow companion at your hip....say a 9MM or similar as protection. Pepper spray will not do it that’s for sure...
There will soon be images of a cougar eating somebodies face - literally.
In the Scott Lancaster case, the cougar ran down the student, killed him within sight of teh high school he attended in Idaho Springs, CO, and then gnawed off Scott’s face and scalp.
The faced and scalp have a high capillary count, contain more blood than other tissues, and are eaten first.
The term “Bloodthirsty” was applied to such beasts for a reason. Now, the “Beastly”, clad in the uniforms of their Agencies, force such beasts on the public through the Endangered Species Act.

Hunters are the best control of deer, not large bodied predators.
Consider that while deer are made of meat, so are humans.
The wolves have nearly wiped out the deer in the western UP.
You are wrong sir!

The movie line axiom follows the logic of fantasy first then becoming reality:
“Nature finds a way”.

If she is Mrs. Michigan she is not a cougar.
Cougars by definition are on the prowl.
She is very attractive though.
