This week officials are gathering in Washington to discuss how to counter extremist messages, particularly those from the self-proclaimed Islamic State.
ISIS has been luring thousands of Westerners to the battlefields of Syria and Iraq. The number of Americans who have traveled to Syria is still relatively small — in the neighborhood of 150 people — and a thin slice of that group, perhaps as many as two dozen Americans, are thought to have joined ISIS.
In the discussions at the White House this week, one city has focused minds: Minneapolis-St Paul.

If we had not imported them nor their parents, we would not have been in this predicament.
Easy for them to return with their American passport, across Mex. border, after they have had a thorough guerilla training in Syria.

For me, it’s a nightmare having Somalis in Minnesota....
Some nightmare..if the so-called leaders of the local Somali community reported all recruiting efforts to the FBI—and identified “yuts” who are heading for the battlefield (or just returned), the problem would end very quickly.
Here’s the inconvenient truth: a significant number of Somalis in Minnesota are either supportive of jihad, or tolerant of it. Others are afraid to contact authorities because it could result in dire consequences for themselves or family members. In that environment, recruiting for terrorist networks is easy, with little chance of being caught.
One more thing that would end this problem: get rid of the social safety net. Whenever a home-grown terrorist is discovered, we usually learn that many of the family—if not the jihadi himself—is enjoying a full range of welfare benefits.
An entire generation of terrorists grew up on the dole in places like Britain, France and other European countries. Now, we’re doing the same thing here. Sheer madness.
Just saw big city cops on C-Span announcing somali community initiatives... We are doomed.

Was up in the Twin Cities burbs last week for a grandkids birthday. Went to a Chuck E Cheese in Maple Grove and was surprised to see all the Islamic dressed people there. There was even one fully veiled woman with the mask. I wish we could outlaw that crap like France did.
