Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday a federal court injunction against President Obamas executive action on immigration should send a signal to Democrats to stop blocking legislation that would curb it.
"This ruling underscores what the President has already acknowledged publicly 22 times, McConnell, R-Ky., said in a statement. He doesnt have the authority to take the kinds of actions he once referred to as 'ignoring the law' and 'unwise and unfair.' Senate Democrats, especially those who've voiced opposition to the Presidents executive overreach, should end their partisan filibuster of Department of Homeland Security funding."
A bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security has stalled in the Senate, thanks to a Democratic filibuster. The Democrats oppose a provision in the bill that would defund Obamas immigration directives that allow millions of people living here illegally to obtain work permits and some federal benefits.
A Texas federal judge late Monday temporarily blocked the Obama administration from implementing the executive actions in order to allow 26 states additional time to sue and permanently block the move.
The Obama administration has vowed to appeal the ruling.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said the ruling bolsters the GOPs efforts to pass the DHS funding bill without stripping out language that would curb Obamas executive actions.

Well, Mitch, you grew a vertebrae.
Now let’s see if you can grow the rest of a spine.
EVERY GOP Senator should setting the theme from this moment forward—for the benefit of non-citizens Obama and the Democrats will shutdown the Dept. of Homeland Security at a time of ISIS terrorism, in order to fund an unconstitutional action.
McConnell sure got brave! I guess it takes a leader (the judge) to help give McConnell some balls.
Somebody help: Is it “defund” or “fund”?
The pResident’s amnesty exec action plan has no funding, does it? How could it?
Ad why hasn’t anybody brought formal charges against this SCUM! Time for an impeachment trial, I say.
AND why hasn’t anybody...
Why would he not use this news to his advantage to at least try to peel away a handful of Democrats to break through their filibuster?
You do raise a good point - no line item was ever passed by Congress to specifically fund his order.
But zero HAS spent money on this: setting up 1 800#s for illegals to rat on Border Guards, DHS employees, ICE, IRS refunds, printing of green cards, etc. At 5 million illegals, that’s a minimum of $1000 per to convince them to sign up.
Just because McConnell or Boehner say something that is encouraging; doesn’t mean I will trust them; they are consistently a thorn in the side of efforts to restore our Free Republic.
By all evidence; A Rino; is a Rino; is Rino, there motives must always be in question.
McConnell has a million ways to stick it to Obamabot Democrat vermin....bust the filibuster, deny the vote of Loretta Lynch for AG, vote for nothing that takes sixty votes to move on!!! Do it!!! McConnell...you whimp!!!
We, the people elected you weak sister Republicans to wipe out Obama and his Democrat low life vermin.....do it!!! Stop playing nice with the Democrat scum...they are all out to destroy the country...just like Obama is doing!!! Grow some-you-know-what!!! And get your deadbeat butts back into session this week and start playing hardball with the Democrat, America Haters!!!
Win the battle, lose the war.
Once the Executive is blocked from implementing DAPA, then all the standing of Texas disappears. That knocks the pins from underneath the DAPA court case. It's mooted.
Why is that bad? Because the Executive wants to expand DACA. Without the precedent of DAPA being blocked, the process of reining in DACA becomes that much harder.
I'm an independent. I have nothing against immigration per se. What I'm against is giving rewards to lawbreakers, to people so selfish or impatient that they refuse to follow the rules that are designed to allow for an orderly process of immigration.
We are a country of immigrants. The vast majority of us can trace their ancestry to other parts of the world. (English/German/Danish in my case). I welcome people who want to make a life here in the United States, to raise and nurture a family here, and who are willing to go through the process to make it so. To obey the laws of their newly-adopted country.
” Just because McConnell or Boehner say something that is encouraging; doesnt mean I will trust them; they are consistently a thorn in the side of efforts to restore our Free Republic.”
And I am still batting 1,000 since our great “victory” in November : )
GOPe lies......details at 11.
“Just because McConnell or Boehner say something that is encouraging; doesnt mean I will trust them”
Oh, absolutely. His next move will likely be to convince enough democrats to stop the filibuster to a. pass the bill so it gets to the president so he can veto it so it can be sent back to the House, who will likely then pass a clean bill; or b. amend the bill bringing it down to a clean bill, then sending it back to the House to repass so the president gets a clean bill.
They’re just going through the motions in playing the game. But nevertheless, McConnell has been put into the delicious position of pretending to stop Amnesty, which he must hate to his core.
Why do I keep hearing that the democrats are philbustering this, when they are not?
I do not see democrats on the floor of the senate philibustering anything.
I saw Ted Cruz philibuster, but I have not seen democrats philibuster, yet the news keeps reporting that they are, when they clearly are not.
It’s like every reporter is Brian Williams here...
Stop talking and go in for the kill yella belly.
McTurd-le will fold like a cheap suit.
FUJB
FUMM
Its time to change the Senate rules and include legislation under the nuclear option.
The GOP has 54 votes in the Senate to move this bill to the communist faggot in the White House desk but doesnt have the balls that Harry Reid did to change the filibuster rule.
McConnell is a spineless worm and is going back on his word when said back in 2013 that if Reid invoked it, the GOP would not only retain it but use it for Legislation and SCOTUS appointments.
Here is this corpse McConnell now on the DHS bill:
Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) maintains that it is time for Democrats in the Senate to get off their ass and do something other than vote no.
But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is preparing the groundwork for the cave, stating, I think its clear we cant go forward in the Senate unless you all have heard something I havent. And so the next move, obviously, is up to the House.
So both of these clowns are playing games and lying.
CHANGE THE RULE MCCONNELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh really, Mitch? Then grow a pair and do what you have to do to pass it.
