Singer-songwriter Lesley Gore, who topped the charts in 1963 with her epic song of teenage angst, "It's My Party," and followed it up with the hits "Judy's Turn to Cry," ''You Don't Own Me" and the feminist anthem "You Don't Own Me," died Monday. She was 68.
Gore died of cancer at New York University Langone Medical Center in Manhattan, according to her partner of 33 years, Lois Sasson.

She was 16 when Its My Party came out. Talk about overnight success. Dodie Stevens was 13 when her "pink shoelaces" became a hit in 59.

I really don’t care about the way she led her life. That is between her and God. All I can say RIP Leslie, thanks for the great music you shared. Now every time I hear “It’s My Party” I think of the movie “Waxwork” LOL.

Funny all her hits portrayed Boy / Girl relationships
But she preferred Girl / Girl ones. Ugh.

Funny all her hits portrayed Boy / Girl relationshipsI have yet to run across a hit about a boy-boy relationship or a girl-girl relationship. "My Girl Bill" by Jim Stafford doesn't count.

Was Boehner able to secure the rights to her song for the 2016 RNC convention?

nor a “Boy Named Sue”
I guess I was naive to expect the artist to um “practice what she sang about”. Kinda left me flat to find out de troof about her preferences.
RIP you Good Leslie you!

Gayla Pevee was only 10 when her “I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” was a smash hit in 1953!

I loved her. And I would have done anything to get my hair to flip like hers. So sad.

ever since the 60s it's been hard to tell the boys and the girls apart.

She officially came out to the public when she hosted several episodes of the PBS series, "In The Life," which dealt with gay and lesbian issues. During the 2012 presidential campaign, Gore turned "You Don't Own Me" into an online video public service announcement demanding reproductive rights which starred Lena Dunham and Tavi Gevinson, among others Lesbian advocates for reproductive/birth control healthcare costs. It's as useless as a whistle on a plow.
