Singer-songwriter Lesley Gore, who topped the charts in 1963 with her epic song of teenage angst, "It's My Party," and followed it up with the hits "Judy's Turn to Cry," ''You Don't Own Me" and the feminist anthem "You Don't Own Me," died Monday. She was 68.
Gore died of cancer at New York University Langone Medical Center in Manhattan, according to her partner of 33 years, Lois Sasson.

When Limbaugh first played the Klaus Nomi cover, I tried to buy it at the time, but the local Strawberries didn't even have it listed in whatever paper catalog the clerk had.
Do remember Lesley Gore from Batman.
Recorded in 1966 and composed by Marvin Hamlisch!
Yes, thanks for reminding me.
She was kind of cute when she was young.
Goodness she aged just awful.
Yep, I remember Leslie in Batman. My brothers and sisters and I spent time in our basement doing two things. Playing Church with Mass and stuff and pretending we were the Beatles.
In 1980, WCBN-FM, the University of Michigan freeform student radio station, played "It's My Party" for 18 hours straight the day after Ronald Reagan was elected.

I’m 6 years younger than she and I don’t look too good either.
Most of those who look “fabulous” have had some work done. Some of us choose to age naturally and whatever happens, happens.
She was 16 when “It’s My Party” came out. Talk about overnight success.
Some folks are not aware of her lesbo status, you know.
Seems like they are defeating their purpose, huh?
Did every Catholic kid play Mass? Nekko wafers for communion?! I once dressed our cat up as a nun!
I am also 68, the same age as her. Some of us did not age well but a few of my classmates look OK. We will have our 50th class reunion this year.
Yep, “Bruth” was my first thought, too.
Do you remember Shelly Fabre’s hit “Johnny Angel”? Donna Reed show update.
You go, girlfriend!
Shouldnt this person be far older than that?”
If she wrote and sang it’s my party in 63, she would have only been 16 or 17 at the time
I didn’t know she was that old.
From CS Lewis’ Screwtape Letters (One of my fave books)-for those unfamiliar with it, Screwtape is a demon giving advice on how to tempt a human -
“The sense of ownership in general is always to be encouraged. The humans are always putting up claims to ownership which sound equally funny in Heaven and in Hell and we must keep them doing so. Much of the modern resistance to chastity comes from men’s belief that they “own” their bodies-those vast and perilous estates, pulsating with the energy that made the worlds, in which they find themselves without their consent and from which they are ejected at the pleasure of Another!...
And all the time the joke is that the word “Mine” in its fully possessive sense cannot be uttered by a human being about anything. In he long run either Our Father or the Enemy will say “Mine” of each thing that exists, and specially of each man. They will find out in the end, never fear, to whom their time, their souls, and their bodies really belong-certainly not to them, whatever happens. At present the Enemy says “Mine” of everything on the pedantic, legalistic ground that He made it: Our Father hopes in the end to say “Mine” of all things on the more realistic and dynamic ground of conquest,
Your affectionate uncle
