'I believe the Russians are mobilizing right now for a war that they think is going to happen in five or six years not that they're going to start a war in five or six years, but I think they are anticipating that things are going to happen, and that they will be in a war of some sort, of some scale, with somebody within the next five or six years."
So says Lt. Gen. Frederick "Ben" Hodges, commander of U.S. Army Europe....
"Strong Europe!" reads a sign on one of the walls. Next to it is the U.S. Army Europe insignia, a burning sword set against a blue shield. The two signs represent the strategic framework the three-star general has introducedbuilding on America's decades-long role on the Continentsince taking command last year of the 30,000 or so U.S. soldiers stationed in Europe.
The U.S. military presence in Europe is more vital at this moment than it has been in many years. American engagement is essential if the West is to deter a revanchist Russia that has set out to "redraw the boundaries of Europe," Gen. Hodges says with a native Floridian's drawl....
The Russians have "got some forces in Transnistria," he says of the state that broke away from Moldova in the 1990s. "They've got forces in Georgia. And I think they view China as their existential threat, so they've got a lot of capacity out there." The Russian military is thus already somewhat stretched, and Moscow had to carve out from existing units the battalion task groups currently arrayed near eastern Ukraine. Yet "they are clearly on a path to develop, to increase, their capacity," Gen. Hodges says. Add to this expansion that "they've got very good equipment, extremely good communications equipment, their [electronic-warfare] capability, T-80 tanks." How long will it take for Russia to reach its desired military strength? "I think within another two or three years they will have that capacity," he says.. -SNIP-
Nuclear weapons have been political weapons since 1946, they will be used again and someone will justify it by assuming it is just “the continuation of politics by other means.”
By this technique, the Chinese figure that they will over the course of years, own Siberia without firing a shot.
So this is where Obama learned the technique of opening the borders and flooding our country with "illiterate" foreigners who, in appreciation, will vote for the Progressive/Socialist party and rule this nation!!!
So now you have NATO troops fighting in Ukraine, to go along with Russia wanting to end itself in a nuclear war.
You are just goofy.
Why ignore my post?
“Tell me, is he being too strong for you, or too weak for you in opposing Russia?
This pro-Russian crowd considers Obama TOO MUCH like Reagan, in his actions against Russia.”
Pat to John.
BUCHANAN: Richard Nixon pulled Egypt of the Soviet bloc. Its not a problem for this reason, in the Middle East, our enemies are al Qaeda and ISIS, so are Russias enemies, al Qaeda and ISIS. We are allies in the war against Islamic terrorism, John.
This is why weve got difficulties in the Ukraine and other places. We have to manage this relationship because in the larger context, I believe that Russia is by and large a greater force for stability and anti-Islamic radicalism, than it is on the other side (ie, the Ukraine junta).
I agree with Pat, not ansel, who wants to expand the war in the Ukraine and prividing a cover for the advancing Islamists. That would be a lose, lose for us.
No you!
I answered it sufficiently. You are apparently pushing for a particular answer so that you can use your already formulated reply that will show how ignorant I surely must be. Sorry. I didn’t get the script soon enough.
All I asked was a pretty simple question since your post didn’t say anything about now, and Ukraine.
You said Obama is weak, and I asked whether he is being too strong for you, or too weak for you in opposing Russia.
I pointed out that the pro-Russia element here considers Obama TOO MUCH like Reagan, in his actions against Russia.
I never said anything about expanding any war in Ukraine, so that is a lie.
I want to prevent you guys from recreating the Cold War and trying to get us into a future WWIII by supporting Russia rebuilding what Reagan defeated.
Sorry. FR is not a grilling on a stool with the light in my face. If you are trying to trip me up on some details known only to you, forget it.
So on a thread on Ukraine you don’t have an opinion on whether we should do more to support Ukraine or less, you just wanted to complain about Obama without any indication of why.
The reason I asked whether you support his weakness, or want him to be weaker, or want him to be stronger, is because the pro-Putin people will get on a thread complaining about how weak Obama’s reaction to Putin is, and how great Reagan was, and then we find out that they really want Obama to be weaker and stop all opposition to Putin’s invasion, and would be rabid if he was as strong in supporting Ukraine as Reagan would be.
Peace in our time.
Sounds like it to me. Every day you're agitating and pushing for almost whatever it takes to defeat the Ukrainian freedom fighters and their 'proxy' supporting Russians.
Freedom fighters, lol. A bunch of alcoholic Moscow street trash recruited and armed by Russia with aims of turning Novorussiya into a Stalinist state. No wonder Pat gets all tingly . . . he has a thing for authoritarians.
Ukrainian Freedom Fighters? Surely you aren’t referring to the Russian “rebels” as freedom fighters? Since the areas they controlled are run almost like ISIS.
Another lie, I support only the normal, routine dealings of the West to this invasion, sanctions, and supplying material aid to our friend being invaded, as Russia fights a war on our NATO borders.
You on the other hand, are against America and the West as you support the Russian invasion.
I guess the left never changes, and never goes away, anti-Americanism endures, and I have been dealing with you pro-Russian agitators my entire life and the struggle predates me.
I think the freedom fighters have suffered double in both accounts.
And all the displaced people, Ukrainians and freedom fighter are heading for Russia for safe haven.
To compare them as the same as ISIS is mindless bashing.
NATO's founding border was the border between E & W Germany, and that's where it should have stayed.
To expand as they did was confrontational and against promises made. So says Kissinger and others.
NATO was not created to divide the world permanently between freedom and what Russia had conquered to preserve the empire the mass murderers had built.
NATO was founded as a defensive alliance against being invaded and conquered by Russia, if a nation broke free from them as Poland did, it isn’t our purpose to return them to the monsters of Russia.
NATO is about us and the civilized world, not preserving your evil empire.
Free nations came into NATO and we are all part of NATO.
You seem to be revealing your plans for after you conquer Ukraine, like a true enemy to America, you are already talking about East Germany and Poland, Lithuania and the others, as being yours.
Ukrainians going to Russia are liable to be arrested and put on trial though, or sent to Siberia
