OCOEE -- Gunfire erupted late Saturday night at the West Oaks Mall as hundreds of teenagers rushed the mall's movie theater.
Ocoee police were called to the mall to help control a large, hostile crowd. Orange County deputies said 800-900 middle school and high school students tried to rush into the theater without paying. Ocoee police said 200-300 made it inside. Police said the juveniles and young adults were causing a disturbance in the food court and movie theater area of the mall.
Police said a large group rushed into the theater and continued causing a disturbance there. Orange County deputies and police from Winter Garden and Windermere were called in to help disperse the crowd.
"During this time, there was a shot fired and somebody was robbed," said Lt. Paul Hopkins, of the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "But the Ocoee Police Department jumped on that quickly and were able to catch the gunman with the gun and make an arrest out of that."
Ocoee police said one juvenile was arrested for battery and resisting an officer without violence, and a second was arrested on misdemeanor drug charges.
Added Hopkins: "Our main concern is this: These are middle to high school kids who have guns, who are shooting guns, who are robbing people, driving stolen cars and they have drugs in their car. ... You need to know where your kids are at all time."

There’s nothing else to do around there, I guess. Bring back midnight basketball!
” this is essentially a defunct mall, way west of downtown Orlando, and near a very large Chinese supermarket.
“
Just like the now razed Randall Mall outside Cleveland. Besieged by gangs until no one would go there. My Asian market is across the street. Do they go together? Dead malls and Chinese grocery stores? Rent has to be dirt cheap!
Not only do malls have certain cultures, they are self contained economies. Most of the trendy clothing stores count on the employees from the other trendy clothing stores to be their best customers.
Thread Winner post.
“Teens”, eh?
Just the last 10 minutes of that film should do the trick.
“Added Hopkins: “Our main concern is this: These are middle to high school kids who have guns, who are shooting guns, who are robbing people, driving stolen cars and they have drugs in their car. ... You need to know where your kids are at all time.” I bet every one of these kids had turned their lives around and maybe thought there was a math tutor session in the theater or maybe even a church service. What is really remarkable is that Hopkins said the truth in public, only omitting that these are middle to high school BLACK kids.....
One arrest.
Hundreds of mobbing kids.
No wonder we are in trouble.
.
LOL!!
“The theater should keep a copy of Zulu for events like this.”
Snow White, or that movie about Flubber would be better!
“they were able to catch the gunman with the gun and make an arrest out of that”.
I have little edumication but I can put together a more better sentence than the writer.
Maybe the parents think it’s nice that the kids are out having a good time, just like they did when they were teens.
LOL, excellent suggestion. Perhaps they should show one of those grainy black-and-white school films from the 1950's. Something like: Here's how to do long division.
LOL!
“...how does that help?”
yes, that’s exactly what i was thinking.
Butt, they wear full costume and use theatrical cosmetics so that at first glance from 50 yards out, they appear to be Negro or Hispanic youth. For sound effects, several of the more talented Vikings practice with dialect tapes and beam their hate-filled speech toward the ubiquitous local TV crews. Small wonder that many on this site blame members of completely innocent ethnic groups.
The local Barney Fifes just don't get it. Scratch one of these "Trayvons," and you'll discover an Ole or Ragnar underneath!
That was nuts.
