Alabama's Stand Against Gay Marriage Crumbles MONTGOMERY, Ala. Feb 13, 2015 By KIM CHANDLER
Alabama's stand against gay marriage crumbled Friday as judges in most counties sided with federal courts rather than their own chief justice, a Republican who once called homosexuality an inherent evil.
Many counties in the Bible Belt state began issuing the licenses to same-sex couples after the latest strongly worded order from U.S. District Judge Callie Granade. She said Thursday that a judge could no longer deny marriage licenses to gays and lesbians, reiterating her ruling striking down the state's ban on same-sex marriage.

No but the Due Process Clause is included in the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, and the Equal Protection Clause is included in the Fourteenth. Federal Courts used those to justify overturning laws against interracial marriage and I assume they're using the same clauses to rule on same sex marriage.
Importantly, Judge Moore has reminded them that they work as elected officials under his jurisdiction. So he can sanction them if they follow the orders of that federal judge. And he should.
So what if a judge refuses to marry a same-sex couple?
It's true they did, but they didn't have the authority. They were making it up. We need to reclaim the plain meaning of the Constitution if we want to reclaim the country. Banning interracial marriage may be daft and ultimately undefinable, but saner states are free to attract citizens who don't want daft laws on marriagethat's our defense against stupid laws, not Federal ambulance chasing. Hard cases make bad law, and ultimately destroy the Constitution.
If we want a government that's less corrupt, we have to play by our own rules.
I guess it’s because God wants MORE GAYS in Alabama. /s

The hard reality is that bans on gay marriage are going to be ruled unconstitutional and a violation of civil rights.
The court, I think, is not viewing this issue through the lens of what’s acceptable by God or anything in the Bible.
It’s being looked as any two individuals. Do two individuals have the right to marry. If they do then gender doesn’t come into play.
Its being looked as any two individuals.
Not disagreeing with what you're saying. What I'm saying is that this is a culture war of the centuries. In a war, you don't accept the enemy's premises, which you correctly identify above. I'm not saying this is easy or quick. Just that it's our job to wear down the culture with our premises instead of theirs.
We're in this for the longvery longhaul, as in "The gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Praise God and pass the ammo.
“We’re in this for the longvery longhaul,”
Agreed. JMHO but it’s not going to turn the other way for a very long time.
I don’t expect to see a turning in my lifetime.
Right at this moment, it’s the other sides time. It will be their time until their time passes.
Gay marriage is going to be the law of the land. At some future point it may swing back the other way.
